Research Assistant I

A recently established neuroscience lab is looking for a research assistant to aid in the maintenance and building of the lab. The research in the lab is centered on understanding the neural mechanisms underlying sensori-motor learning. As a member of the research team, will assist in the design and building of equipment for electrophysiological experiments and write computer programs in Matlab and/or Labview for data acquisition and analysis. Responsible for taking care of research animals, maintaining laboratory equipment and the cleaning of animal quarters as well as ordering lab supplies. May be asked to perform minor clerical tasks as needed. May be asked to instruct others in basic laboratory techniques. May be asked to conduct research project independently, but within specific guidelines and subject to review by supervisor or other research staff.

 

 College background or equivalent work experience, preferably in a related discipline (neurobiology, math, physics, or computer science) desired. At least one year related work experience or equivalent coursework required. Demonstrated abilities in basic laboratory techniques, especially electronics would be helpful, but are not required. Basic computer programming skills and familiarity with Matlab and/or Labview would be desired. Working conditions may include lifting/moving laboratory equipment; working with hazardous materials and animal handling.

 

 This position is a one-year term position with the possibility of renewal. All formal offers will be made by FAS Human Resources.
