SQL Database Administrator

Our client in San Francisco is looking for a SQL Database Administrator to join their team. This is a direct hire or contract-to-hire opportunity; all candidates must be able to go full time without needing or having Visa sponsorship. If you are qualified and interested please email a MS Word copy of your resume to: elizabeth.hopkins@modisit.com  Job Responsibilities: * Work with IT development team and end users to design, build, document, support, and maintain secure MS SQL application/database systems to meet production and support needs. * Perform improvements, upgrades, patches, and topology changes, and create projects and timelines for IT management to review. * Responsible for communicating EOL details on critical application and database versions. Responsible for planning and communicating planned system outages as appropriate. * Install and configure MS SQL environments according to repeatable procedures. Update and maintain build documentation, patch records, and test results. * Maintain direct relationship with current application and database vendors to ensure support on systems as required. * Manage the daily backups of critical SQL applications/databases, including tape replenishment, vaulting service documentation, and media rotation. * Carry database duty phone to provide 7x24 support coverage. * Responsible for disaster recovery database infrastructure and activation of various internal systems. * Provide oversight and audit evidence of the effectiveness of in-scope SOX systems backups, media handling, and offsite storage. * Monitor and report on the load and transaction activity in the assigned business systems, and perform capacity planning by self-directed initiative and as directed by management. * Document policies, instructions, and procedures by self-directed initiative and as directed by management. * Maintain skills and understanding of industry practices and company policies and procedures.Qualifications Requirements: * Must have 5+ years building and supporting MS SQL databases and applications in a DBA role. * At least 2 years supporting applications development efforts for internal IT development teams in an employee facing production environment is required. * Highly preferred technical knowledge or experience includes: * Experience with ETL and DTS packages to provide data feeds from other systems including Oracle Financials. * Experience with supporting Cognos Data Warehouse. * Software development experience. * MS SQL administration skills at an advanced level. * Knowledge of windows and network security administration at an intermediate level. * Knowledge of Arcserve backup utilities, Quest Spotlight products and their administration, Microsoft .Net and C++ compiler/linker environments at an advanced level. * Proven competency in the Microsoft Windows Server 2000/XP by either job experience, and/or technical certification. * Windows system administration training required, or evidence of equivalent competency. * Knowledge of Windows 2000/XP administration at an intermediate level.Preferred technical certification include: * MCSE, MCSA. * MS SQL certified database administrator, or equivalent. * Oracle database certified administrator, or equivalent.Highly preferred individual characteristics include: * Ability to communicate effectively with both business and technical staff to convey complex ideas both verbally and in written form. * Ability to work well both independently and in a group environment. * Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn. * Ability to handle multiple work threads under time and resource constraints. * Strong service skills with high level of responsiveness to requests for assistance. * Detail oriented with ability to build and administer systems in accordance with standardized procedures.* Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience is required. * Must be able to accommodate occasional travel to various domestic Advent offices. * Availability to occasionally work after-hours weekdays and occasional weekends.
