Direct Report to:   Director of Network Operations

 

Job Summary:

The Senior DOCSIS Engineer will be responsible for the day to day operations and advancement of subscriber access technologies including CMTS/Cable modems and 802.11 wireless technologies.

 

Job Responsibilities:

· Responsible for the scalability and integrity of the CMTS and cable-modem networks for all Metrocast regions.

· Develop CMTS and cable-modem configuration strategy and support requirements for all regions.

· Manage and direct a small group of engineers to accomplish daily activities and overall long term strategy.

· Develop an end-to-end testing strategy for new CMTS and Cable modem integrations.

· Oversee and direct root cause analysis measures required to resolve customer connectivity issues and formulate plans required to solve issues.

· Establish relationships with vendors and track issues to resolution.

· Formulate policies and procedures to be followed by all staff members.

· Oversee system performance and operations through daily/weekly/monthly planning meetings.

· Prioritization of projects and activities based upon business objectives.

 

Job Qualifications:

· Bachelors/Masters of Science degree in a computer science or electrical engineering or equivalent in work experience bringing new technologies to market in highly complicated, ambiguous, fast pace business environments.

· Previous management of a technical staff tasked with complex projects while meeting specific timelines.

· Strong knowledge in CMTS deployment and maintenance required.

· In depth knowledge of CableLabs standards including DOCSIS and PacketCable.

· In depth knowledge of network operations including Switching, Routing, QOS techniques, and network management.

· Understanding of VOIP technologies and related standards.

· Previous exposure and experience with wireless 802.11 and FTTX/PON technologies a plus.

· Strong project management, change management, and organizational skills.

 

Job Qualifications:

· Excellent presentation and communication skills a must.  Ability to communicate complex technical issues to internal technical and non-technical customers.

· Ability to function in a highly fluid environment with aggressive deadlines.

· Must be a team player, able to work closely with cross-functional development groups. Ability to motivate a lead a geographically disperse staff through technical projects.

· Ability to translate business objectives into technical implementation plans and see through to completion.

· Rapidly grasps new technology and abstraction; stays in tune with evolving technologies/standards.

· Must possess the ability to maintain balance between multiple perspectives: customer, business, technical and operations.

· Knowledge of video architecture is preferred.

· Experienced in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project, and Outlook) a must.
