STP Nuclear Operating Company (STP) is one of the largest nuclear power plants nationwide, and is an industry leader in safety, reliability and efficiency, STP’s twin pressurized water reactors produce 2,700 megawatts of electricity, enough to serve more than one million homes in Austin, Corpus Christi, Houston, San Antonio and surrounding areas in south central Texas.  The plant is located about 90 miles southwest of Houston on a 12,200 acre site near Bay City in Matagorda County.

STP recently announced the construction of two additional units at its existing facility.  The two new plants will produce an additional 2,660 megawatts of base load electricity for the region, more than doubling the current capacity of the facility.  The new construction along with the existing plants will generate hundreds of new jobs for the region.

Senior System Administrator/Staff
Responsible for administration of Information Technology (IT) UNIX or Windows platforms, including establishment and implementation of standards/procedures/guidelines, backup/recovery strategies, performance monitoring, capacity planning, establishment and monitoring of thresholds, technical support, new hardware installation and hardware replacement, interface with customers, vendors, other IT personnel, and infrastructure architectural integration associated with respective platforms.  Additionally, maintain current knowledge of industry directions and work with customers and vendors to provide strategic planning associated with platform related issues.  Limited administration of DEC/VAX systems.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Senior System Administrator/Staff

Participates in developing standards, procedures, and guidelines which provide guidance and control of platform administration.

Works independently.

Implements approved hardware and software configuration.

Makes customization decisions, installs and maintains operating system and OEM system software.

Develops and maintains a high level of technological knowledge relative to the installed system configuration.

Maintain Business Continuation Plan (BCP) for platform administration.

Recommends, plans, and implements hardware modifications to conform to approved configuration.

Develops the overall UNIX and Windows platform administration strategy for IT.

Provides technical guidance to other administrators.

Proactively develops and maintains a high level of technological knowledge relative to the installed system configuration.

EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Mathematics or related subject or five years of experience as listed in the Duties and Responsibilities.

EXPERIENCE

Senior: Five (5) years of experience in data processing in addition to education requirements, as listed in Duties and Responsibilities.

Staff: Eight (8) years of experience in data processing in addition to education requirements.

SPECIAL SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS

1.  Ability to perform mathematics required for statistical analysis of section and system performance.

2.  Ability to use personal computer for word processing and other software used to prepare system documentation, reports and correspondence.

3.  Knowledge of: a.   UNIX or Windows operating systems. b.DEC/VAX operating systems, limited.c. Technical aspects of computing systems.d. Systems support procedures. e. Basic understanding or ability to learn elecrical design and requirement for computer system f.Unix scripting.g. Platform configuration control processes.

4.  Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access to station protected area.

5.  Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, to technical and non-technical audiences.

6.  Ability to perform fact finding in order to make timely decisions and direct problem solving efforts.

7.Ability to work with minimal supervision

WORKING CONDITIONS

Normal office environment.

Must be able to work in confined spaces such as communication wiring closets and computer room floor.

Subject to overtime as required.

Subject to call-out and on-call duties as required.

Must be able to lift, move and carry equipment up to 40 pounds.

Some Travel Required

Must be able to sit for extended periods of time
