Sr Business Intelligence Analyst (COGNOS)

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: Assist in the development and production of custom reporting solutions in support of the Cubic’s business units. Work with departments to ensure the data model designs support the planning and reporting needs of their groups. Assist in designing and implementing multidimensional and related data marts and enterprise level tools in support of business unit analysis and decisions making. Maintain and support Cubic’s Cognos business intelligence (BI) infrastructure. Analyze existing reporting methods and business processes, procedures and problems to refine data and improve accuracy of data for information and reporting to better meet business needs and end-user requirements. Design, implement and distribute reports and ad-hoc reports to ensure that business intelligence reporting meets the needs of the individual areas within the company and divisions. Participate in gathering of business requirements, preparing specifications and developing metadata required for delivering high quality BI. Assist in the development and implementation of a BI strategy for accurately capturing, sharing, distributing, securing and leveraging company data resources. Assist in defining business-oriented metadata definitions for reporting schema; integrating BI tools and analytic applications to enable end-users to access and analyze data in the data warehouse and data marts. Provide technical consulting to users of the business data and advise users on the conflicts and inappropriate data usage.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Four-year college degree in computer science or equivalent and a minimum of five years related experience. Ability to work under limited supervision and across various levels of management. Solid understanding of processes and activities that occur within accounting and finance functions, including accounting systems design and implementation. Cognos 8 BI author certification (can be obtained within first three months of employment). Strong problem solving skills. Strong understanding of data warehousing, multi-dimensional and relational data. Strong knowledge of SQL, MS Access, MS Excel, pivot tables, database design basics. Ability to communicate well with others at all levels of technical ability. Ability to work within a team and independently when required.
