Sr. Engineer, IT Network - Chantilly, VA

Position Summary:

Responsible for day to day support of the corporate IT Network within Abovenet. The candidate should be familiar with local area and wide area network technologies to include switches, routers, and firewalls. The Candidate will be responsible for working closely with IP Engineering and IP Operations teams to ensure standards and policies are followed.

Responsibilities:

•Maintain our NetScreen Security Manager Appliance, to include policy updates;

•Complete tasks related to day-to-day operations - daily proactive monitoring of the network; research security bulletins and product updates daily; monthly performance analysis and tuning;

•Deploy and Maintain a Layer-3 VPN infrastructure to the production network, utilizing Juniper ScreenOS and Netscreen Manager;

•Work with IP Engineering team as they rollout the new hardware and migrate existing offices to the Layer-3 VPN;

•Perform day to day maintenance and support of the IT Network, work with the IT Helpdesk to troubleshoot end user issues as they relate to the IT Network;

•Assist with the deployment of VOIP Network with the Telco Operations group;

•Perform post-mortems on network incidents and issues, and make written recommendations for technical and policy improvements;

•Work with IP Infrastructure and Provisioning groups to ensure that necessary equipment and capacity are ordered and installed in time to meet demand. Once new equipment has been installed, perform all necessary configurations to activate it in the network;

•Support of the Cisco Content Services Switches used by IT;

•The individual must comply with departmental and corporate internal controls and all internal controls processes;

•The individual must possess and employ the highest ethical and business standards and always conduct himself/herself with the greatest degree of professional integrity;

•Miscellaneous other duties and responsibilities as may be requested or required by management.

Requirements:

•Hands-on-Experience with NetScreen Security Manager in a production environment;

•Must be able to effectively communicate and document complex technical issues with both technical and non-technical personnel;

•Candidate must have a 4-year bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience;

•Candidate must have 5 to 7 years hands-on-experience with Juniper and Cisco network equipment;

•Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. Must have a thorough understanding of BGP, OSPF, firewall policy, and VLAN management as well as VPN technologies and QoS;

•Must be familiar with IP routing equipment from Cisco and Juniper and possess the ability to troubleshoot outages involving Ethernet and T1s interfaces. Must be able to diagnose and resolve routing issues, congestion problems, and hardware and software failures;

•Within these categories the candidate should have vast experience specifically in the deployment, and/or support of LAN/WAN infrastructures and architecting security solutions;

•Must be able to lift approximately 50 lbs as equipment movement may be necessary.
