Sr. Project Manager

Primary Responsibilities:
As a program manager or a project manager of a “crisis” project, operates independently to:
• Successfully manage large projects, full or partial life cycle, to get them on track and meet customer's expectations of an on-time, quality, and within budget project
• Understand, promote, and train project management practices and disciplines with all stakeholders on projects
• Follow and promote published IT procedures and guidelines
• Develop a partnership with Business Units to create, collaborate, and take ownership of all projects
• Maintain flexibility to accommodate special requests and unexpected project changes
• Clearly articulate goals, objectives and accomplishments for the project
• Manage scope, schedule, and resources through configuration management and change control
• Manage resources effectively in a matrix organization

As a PMO liaison, operates independently to:
• Coach, mentor, train project managers to perform their roles in accordance with project management best practices and standards
• Facilitate project reviews and governance committee meetings
• Conduct internal audits of IT projects
• Generate project-related metrics and collect key metrics from other IT Services functional areas

Associated Responsibilities:
• Responsible for meeting cost, schedule and performance goals
• Facilitate meetings
• Participate in or complete performance reviews of team members

Experience:
• 10+ years experience in formal IT project management
• 10+ years Business/IT experience (Systems Development)
• 5+ years experience using MicroSoft Project 2003 or later
• Experience in various forms of project management lifecycles

Plusses:
• Project Manager using an iterative, component-based, object-oriented development approach in a client-server or web-enabled environment
• Exposure to CMM / CMMI processes
• Project Management Professional (PMP)
• Insurance background
• Teaching/instructor background
• Crystal Reports programming
• MS Project 2007 / MS Project Server 2007 experience

Skills:
• Microsoft Office Suite 2003 or later
• Successful, proven track record of project/program management managing large, highly complex high-profile IT projects or multiple projects of high complexity
• Demonstrated understanding and formal training in IT Project Management disciplines and procedures
• Excellent leadership, coaching, team building, and communication skills at project team and customer levels
• Adept at managing cultural and organizational change; an "agent of change
• Successfully builds customer and project team relationships
• Uses formal procedures to manage project risks
• Demonstrated ability to effectively manage project team members with varying levels of resource skills and experience
• Manages all levels of risk with virtually no help or support needed from management for issues within their control
• Demonstrated ability to invoke new state-of-the-art project management processes and techniques

Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or Information Systems (or equivalent experience).
