Sr. Systems Administrator
Essential Functions
The Technology Development Group is seeking an individual with strong system engineering, administration and networking skills and desire to learn new and emerging technologies. The role will also include integration and support of a third party’s video monitoring system, user support, customer interface, system administration, network engineering and application troubleshooting. The job spans separate networks with varying levels of classification and requires a coordinated effort between all levels.
The individual in this position will be expected to:
· Research, evaluate and provide feedback on problematic trends and patterns in customer support requirements
· Develop customer support policies, procedures and standards
· Recommend and schedule maintenance to maintain network integrity
· Provide customer training
· Work closely with end users and customers to ensure the tool meets the needs of the analysts
· Assist in the implementation of complex video and streaming media delivery systems
· Take ownership of security requirements imposed upon system and ensure it meets info sec approval
· Responsible for implementing and troubleshooting hardware and software issues involving audio, video and WAN/LAN networks.
· Install, configure, troubleshoot and maintain video servers, encoders and storage devices
· Work closely with LAN/WAN teams to ensure effective network security
· Diagnose and resolve problems in response to customer incidents
· Maintain Windows, Linux and Unix servers needed for IT and development infrastructures
· Understand basic VoIP technologies and be able to resolve issues related to voice networksRequired Skills:
· Working knowledge of Agency networks
· Must have good oral, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills to work well as a problem-solver in data center and at the customer's site
· Must be able to work independently and as part of a team
· Experience in managing customers and users
· Working knowledge of complex projects preferably within digital-broadcast technologies, Internet and New Media technologies
· Experience with streaming media and Windows Media servers and encoders desired
· Skilled with the integration and set up of video processing equipment
· Ability to interface effectively with all levels of management and customers
· Working knowledge and experience should include: workstations, servers, routers, switches, firewalls, enterprise storage and backup systems
· Significant experience in Windows Server Operating Systems (i.e. NT Server, 2000 and 2003 Server, MSFT Web Server, MSFT Storage Server and Windows XP)
· Networking knowledge and experience should include: TCP/IP (i.e. SMTP, DNS, HTTP, etc.), firewalls and proxies
· Basic understanding of VoIP technologies and their integration into voice and data networks
· Experience in server maintenance of Windows Server and Linux operating systems including hardware and software maintenance, patch and update installation, user management
· Understanding and experience working with Microsoft Active Directory domains and LDAPDesired Skills:
· Experience in the development of web technologies, to include Apache Web Server, Apache Tomcat, HTML/CSS, XML, Windows Media Services, and W3C Web Services.
· Experience in the design and administration of MySQL databases.
· Experience in the UNIX and Linux administration and security.
· CBNT, CPBE, CCNP, CCDP, CCIE, MCSE, RHCE.
· Experience with network storage technologies, including RAID, SAN, NAS, and ISCSI.
· Understanding of Microsoft Active Directory and/or LDAP, Kerberos.
· Understanding of computer security principles, including Microsoft Group Policy management.
· Experience in the integration and management of IBM xServer and Dell Power PowerEdge server platforms.
· Experience in video data generation, analysis, storage, transmission and broadcast engineering
· Experience using COTS tools for video capture, storage, display and analysis.
· In depth understanding of digital video compression and storage techniques (e.g. MPEG)
· Experience with NTSC and PAL video standards is a plus.
· Knowledge of broadcast signals a plus, (i.e. SDI, component, composite, etc.)Essential Education:
Bachelors degree in related discipline plus two-to-six years of related experience; or High School diploma and 12-15 years of related experience.
