Sr Systems Administrator - UNIX

Position Description:

--- Position Objective ---The Senior Systems Administrator position requires a versatile individual with the experience and capability to enhance the activities of a technology infrastructure engaged in computer operations, systems administration, and networking services. As a senior resource on the team, this individual will also need to possess and demonstrate leadership skills in developing technical solutions, promoting the growth of other team members, and constantly pursuing excellence in the scope of responsibility. This person will also perform operational and strategic activities in regards to the administration of all internal and external servers across the company's 16-state, regionally dispersed infrastructure. Well over 500 servers exist in this infrastructure that include clusters dedicated to a large-scale Sendmail mail server farm, the customer VoIP backbone, other ISP provider elements, Oracle databases, and internal support systems for 1700+ users.We have a great team of Systems Administrators at NuVox, so a new team member must be professional, teachable, motivated, positive, and even willing to have some fun.--- Position Activities ---Server Installation and AdministrationBackup and Recovery ManagementEnterprise Storage ManagementPerformance TuningServer SecurityTime Management of Current Projects and TasksParticipation in on-call rotation for 24x7 supportEngage in mentoring opportunities as directed by the lead team members Team Leadership1) Promoting the growth of other systems administrators2) Providing guidance in making superb technical decisions as a team3) Leading by example in terms of work ethic and attitude--- Planning Activities ---Researching projects established by team lead or team managerProactively seeking potential areas of vulnerability or unreliability and then providing resolutionScheduling daily and weekly activities to accomplish goals in order of priorityNotifying the other members of the team in advance if you need to modify the current on-call rotation --- Problem Solving Activities ---Server hardware troubleshootingOperating System troubleshootingBasic network troubleshootingBasic database troubleshootingApplication troubleshootingStorage, Backup, and Recovery troubleshootingCross-departmental communication for problem resolution

Qualifications:

--- Essential Skills ---Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience 4+ years Solaris experience4+ years Red Hat Linux experience3+ years Supporting Sendmail, Apache, and DNS3+ years Supporting Oracle databases3+ years Enterprise backup software (prefer NetBackup)Proven experience in providing technical leadership in a team environmentTime management skills and ability to organizeShell and Perl scripting experienceDecision-making skills--- Preferred Skills ---Storage Area Network (SAN) experienceAdvanced understanding of network principles, such as switching, routing, etc.Server security certifications (CISSP or Security+) or advanced experience in securing a UNIX and Linux OSClustered Apache, Sendmail, DNS, and MySQL experienceWebLogic experienceHP-UX administration experienceExperience with Cisco switches and routersWindows Server experienceCode development and deployment experience including basic troubleshooting and compilation of Java, PHP, and C/C++
