Sr. Unix/Solaris System and Network Administrator FULL TIME

This position shares responsibilities for maintaining and monitoring UNIX operations for over 30 servers, including the InternetIntranet architecture, for the Information Technology Department of an international commodities trading firm.

 

Skills and ExperienceExperience with Internet/Intranet deployments and UNIX hardware and software maintenance, such as installing hardware components, loading software and network operating systems. Superb knowledge of UNIX (Solaris version 2.8,9, and 10 preferred) Advanced knowledge of Internet/Intranet architecture, Apache Web Server, Sendmail, DNS, DHCP Advanced knowledge of network security, system security, firewalls, and VPNsVPNs Experience with Checkpoint Noika Firewalls, Fortigate Firewalls, Cisco ASA’s and Cisco VPNs preferred

ResponsibilitiesQualifying candidate will maintain UNIX server operations, including but not limited to: providing user security; backup and restoration of files; os upgrades; monitoring server usage; and handles performance tuning of both the hardware and network operating systems. Maintain the Internet/Intranet architecture and VPN (i.e.: firewalls, routers, switches, etc….) for all offices. This includes, but is not limited to, troubleshooting, performance tuning and ensuring prevention of access by unauthorized individuals. Evaluate and correct network problems as they occur, ensuring the network meets the needs of the company by communicating with users and participating in major programs within the organization. Maintain DNS/DHCP servers for the internal network and maintains DNS servers and information for external networks in conjunction with outside parties which maintain hardware on a weekly basis. Creates and updates documentation including SOP (Standard Operating Procedures), Project Plans, Network diagrams, etc…. Develop Internet/Intranet standards within the enterprise by communicating with other Company personnel involved in Internet/Intranet development, researching trade publications and attending technical seminars. Purchase and maintain hardware for servers and workstations, including analyzing and evaluating new technologies, in conjunction with departmental managers when necessary; places purchase orders, installs and tests new equipment.Advises and supports the design and development of the network operating systems and topology as needed. Helps direct less experienced staff members and consultants in performing any of the above functions. Performs other duties and projects as assigned by supervisor, including some Database administration.
