Position Title:Sun Systems ProgrammerSeniorPosition Description:This position reports to the Enterprise Operations (EO), Implementation Services (IS), Enterprise Platform Services (EPS), Unix manager. This position is responsible for providing advanced technical consultation, system implementation, integration and support. This includes, but is not limited to, maintaining superior operation (7x24) and high availability of the Unix server environment in various data centers. This position also designs solutions or approaches, and follows processes and procedures to implement solutions designed by others. Ability to perform system integration and implementation from a high level down to the hands-on technical level is required. Opportunities for systems analysis, diagnostics, trouble-shooting, performance analysis and resolution are common. The candidate must be able to function independently and produce results that meet standards of quality, timeliness and acceptability with minimal supervision and general direction. This position will Create UNIX-based facilities that are fault tolerant, step restartable, and reusable, while coordinating the efforts of inter-disciplinary groups.Environment:Operations is a group of 1800-plus people who provide day-to-day monitoring and support to Kaiser Permanentes medical groups, business partners and millions of members. Our infrastructure consists of 6,000-plus servers in numerous platforms running over 2,500 applications servicing more than 130,000 users located in more than 400 medical offices, hospitals and administrative facilities. The environment consists of several varieties of the Unix operating system (AIX, Solaris, Linux, etc.), and of several brands and classes of hardware (IBM, SUN, HP, EMC, etc.).Qualifications:Include but not limited to:Perform Unix (SunOS/Solaris) system builds, maintenance and support (hardware and software)System run and integration for various core activities and investment projects.System configuration, tuning and analysis.Work with Tier III customer support in escalated customer support issues.Diagnose and fix issues identified by current systems.Document Systems architecture and design.Operating System Backup/Recovery and Planning.Perform technical Project Implementation and System integration as directed by team leads.Test, Certify, Pilot and Introduction of advance technology with related to server platforms.Implement and Deliver Projects according to specs and timelineAll other tasks assigned by Group Manager and/or Team Leads.Skills Required:To qualify you should be an intermediate to senior level professional experienced with SunOS and Solaris products and in all aspects of the primary product, program or technology. Your ability should encompass the full knowledge required within the specialty area, ability to function independently with minimal oversight and direction. May instruct and guide lower level technical professionals. Functional work categoriesThe candidate must be an intermediate UNIX systems programmer capable of following documented procedures for the installation and configuration software packages on servers running various varieties of UNIX (principally IBM AIX v5.x.x and Sun Solaris v7-current). The candidate must be capable of following and consulting on installation scripts and procedures.Software Installation and MaintenanceDevelops logic; modifies, installs, tests and debugs software packages. Works with clients and vendors to achieve timely software installation and maintenance. Maintains inventory records of software. Assists in compliance of installation and quality standards. Assists with change management.Software Development and ModificationDevelops and modifies software and scripts to support required functionality.File System MaintenanceCapable of supporting and managing file system maintenance activities, including addition/attachment of storage, file system expansions, data migration, etc. Works with Storage Infrastructure counterparts to design, schedule and execute storage changes.Compliance AccountabilityConsistently supports compliance and the Principles of Responsibility (Kaiser Permanentes Code of Conduct) by maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of information, protecting the assets of the organization, acting with ethics and integrity, reporting non-compliance, and adhering to applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, accreditation and licenser requirements (if applicable), and Kaiser Permanentes policies and procedures.Empowerment LevelAdvise and Recommend. Person should be following well documented procedures. If a task deviates from a procedure, it should not be performed. Expectation at this level is that the deviation is reported, and recommendations to correct or improve the procedure made.Experience Must have experience with SunOS (v5.x through current) and Solaris (v7 through current); IBM AIX versions 4.x through 5.x a plus. Experience with End of Service Life activities and decommissioning a plus.Minimum Work Experience:A minimum of 6-10+ years in the IT environment with hands-on experience with SunOS/Solaris. B.S or A.S Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience is preferred. Proven ability to provide level III technical support, system fault analysis and resolution as well as technical project implementation and good interfacing skill with non-technical users. Proficiency with Sun kernels, Networking, Web, Scripting, Perl programming, hardware configuration, support and maintenance, network protocols, system security, various commercial UNIX applications. Honorable level of understanding of Sun/Solaris operating environment, EMC and IBM Shark Storage Devices, Tape Drives, NIMMS, and related UNIX technologies.
