Systems Administrator-Linux

Position Description

Responsible for networked systems administration, network backups, workstation setup, and user support of a 1000+ computer/blade center facility. Responsible for the setup and operational support for the Red Hat 9 and Enterprise 3 & 4 Linux operating systems, Windows Server 2000 & 2003, and Windows XP. Responsible for technical support for users and for installed client software, user account administration, configuration management, group policy maintenance and assists as needed with user requests. Develop and document the site-specific policies and procedures required to operate applications. Candidate will be part of a team to determine the root cause of prototype software deficiencies in a fast paced environment supporting Army software testing. Position will require initial travel to the FCS software integration facility at Huntington Beach, CA.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or six years relevant experience. Knowledge of Windows Server 2000 and 2003, Windows XP, Linux (Red Hat) operating systems. Knowledge of TCP/IP network protocols on Local Area Networks and across Wide Area Network and related software comprising the various office suites, SQL databases, complex distributed test application, and various server Web based applications. Must have a valid driver’s license. Applicant selected will be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Experience with installation, maintaining, troubleshooting and updating complex software and operating systems in large facilities to include using the xCAT Toolkit. Ability to write operating system administrative scripts to facilitate system automation. Linux, Microsoft, and Cisco certifications are a plus.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to install software onto computers which are in 8 feet computer racks (with use of a ladder).
