Systems Analyst VI (Server Tower Specialist)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Performs highly advanced technical server related activities required to outsource the mission-critical infrastructure of 27 Texas state agencies (including 7,000 servers in a variety of technologies). Monitors service performance, service levels, and contractual commitments related to Service Provider delivery of server data services in the context of the Data Center Services Agreement pursuant to HB 1516 (79th Legislature, Regular Session).  Acts as a State of Texas technical contact and working counterpart with the service delivery representatives from the outsourcing Service Provider. Works under minimal direction of the Data Center Services Performance Management Specialist with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

 

 

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (E) Monitors service levels and contractual commitments for server related services and ensures appropriate on-going receipt of server services from the Service Provider; analyzes service level metrics reports and data exports to assess Service Provider on-going server performance; uses automated tool to analyze data exports and spreadsheet data addressing usage of capacity, disk storage, tape, etc.; works with DIR finance and contract management staff to collect any appropriate server data required for financial or contract administration or oversight (E) Assists the Transition/Transformation Lead to ensure successful transfer of assets, facilities, and service delivery responsibilities to the Data Center Services (DCS) Service Provider for all outsourced server computer services associated with the Data Center Consolidation Project (E) Reviews performance reports and identifies issues or opportunities for continuous improvement; develops or enhances server related performance metrics to facilitate evaluation of work activities; reviews benchmarking approach and participates in server benchmarking activities; develops and recommends modifications to server related DIR information technology infrastructure standards (E) Provides expert information and advice regarding server services in response to inquiries from Customer Representative from participating State agencies and DIR staff; provides overall guidance to the Service Provider Account Team regarding the technical and operational server  computing needs of DIR and DIR customers (E) Supports DIR Service Representatives and DIR customers in identifying, escalating and resolving server related issue in collaboration with the Service Provider (E) Assists DIR and Service Provider staff in forecasting server computer resource requirements; reviews, endorses, and “forwards for approval” strategic and operational plans for the server  environment and change management activities related to the Service Provider delivery of server  computer services (E) Assists and may back-up the Performance Management Specialist as needed. Performs other duties as assigned

Education:

·         Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in MIS, computer science, math, or a related field

·         Two years of additional related experience may be substituted for each year of formal education (High School diploma or equivalent certificate required.)

  

Experience and Training:

·         Ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in the IT industry

·         Eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience managing complex server environments, including capacity planning, operating system upgrades, system software upgrades, and implementing server hardware upgrades. Some experience must be hands-on system programming and system software installation, database administration.

 

Experience and Training preferred:

·         Extensive server related planning and operational experience, including troubleshooting and resolving complex server  problems or issues

·         Extensive experience in implementing upgraded server hardware and system software

·         Experience in hands-on management and use of enterprise DBMS environments  

·         Experience working as a server system programmer or technical     expert

·         Experience using database management systems in conjunction with web development tools to create web input and reporting front-ends for database tracking and reporting systems. 

·         Experience working as a server technical lead on infrastructure transition or transformation activities, especially involving multiple facilities or data centers
