Systems Engineering Specialist
The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) is a regional agency of the state of Florida, and is charged with managing and protecting water resources of the region by balancing and improving water quality, flood control, natural systems and water supply. SFWMD's boundaries extend from central Florida to Lake Okeechobee, and from coast to coast, from Fort Myers to Fort Pierce, south through the sprawling Everglades to the Florida Keys and Florida Bay. Responsible for the maintenance, management, operational support and enhancement of the District’s SCADA systems (Telvent OASyS, LoggerNet, Etc), their native databases, other hydrometeorlogical databases and the Operations Decision Support System (ODSS). Participates in the design and implementation of interfaces between systems, networks, middleware, databases, programmable remote terminal units and other distributed intelligent devices. Independent support of critical water control and decision support systems during emergency and storm onslaught events as well as twenty-four/seven, immediate level 1,2 and 3 responsibility for problem determination and operational restoration of water control and decision support systems. Possesses extensive knowledge and experience in SCADA systems software engineering and analysis roles. Possesses solid problem solving and analytical skills; verbal/written communication, reporting and organization skills. Has extensive knowledge in: Water Management principles and methodologies and meteorologic and hydrologic monitoring principles. Complete knowledge and understanding of real-time, process-control and device automation technology. Thorough familiarity with SQL, DNC; MS; MS Access; Java Script, VBA; XML; XSL; .NET. Knowledge in most of the following: decision support software principles; water control structures (gates, dams, weirs, bladder gates, single/multiple diesel and electric pumps; remote intelligent controllers); telemetry, digital radio, microwave network operation; satellite data capture; Motorola and Campbell Scientific Corp. remote device hardware and software expertise; webMethods middleware. Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and eight (8) plus years qualifying experience of demonstrated technical competence supporting SCADA, real-time and communications systems.
