Description

This person will supervise the software test group supporting multiple product development teams who are developing software for sophisticated test systems for automotive, materials and aerospace structural testing.

 

The test supervisor will be responsible for supervising a team of test leads and test engineers, setting software test direction and supporting the test leads in doing test planning, test design, defect management, test execution and status reporting.  This position also includes hiring and people development, cost center management and workload management. 

 

This person will help with the adaptation of software test into the agile/scrum processes that are being used by a number of the development groups, but also be able to support more traditional methods of development.

 

Another key role is to help expand our automated testing coverage.

 

Role

 

Owner of software testing.

·  Setting the software testing direction in a diverse development environment.  This includes working with the individual software managers to develop the processes, methods and tools that will be most effective for their groups.  It also includes developing common tools, methods and processes where it makes business sense.

·  Keeping current with new tools, methods and processes and adapting those that make business sense.

·  Be a change agent and a champion of continuous improvement.

 

Software test supervisor

·  Organizational structure

·  Hiring and development of test leads and test engineers

·  Oversight of off shore resources.

·  Cost center management.

 

Resource manager for testing resources

·  Works with the test lead to assign resources to the team and to adjust those resources as needed.  Note that resources can include people outside of the test group such as STCs, FSEs and local and remote contractors including offshore resources.

·  Works with the development managers to balance and prioritize the software testing workload when necessary.

 

 

 

 

Expectations

Understand the needs of the various software groups and adapts resources (leads and test engineers), processes and tools to be most effective in those groups.  This would require a strong understanding of both agile and traditional methods of software development. 

 

Be able to help us grow the amount of automated testing that we do in a way that adds business value.

 

Be able to help us find the best way to test in an agile environment.

 

Help integrate the test teams into the development teams.

 

Works well with software managers and product managers to deliver high quality software.

 

Effective at managing the testing resource pool, including people outside the software testing group such as STCs, FSEs and local and remote contractors including offshore resources to support product releases (and project deliveries).

 

Effective change agent.

 

Help with FMEA evaluations.

 

Qualifications

 

Degree in computer science, engineering or equivalent technical degree

At least 8 years of experience in the software testing of engineering products or systems, at least 3 of which have been in a test lead role.

Extensive knowledge of and experience in software testing methodologies.

Experience working in an agile development environment.

History of learning, continuous improvement and best practices

Experience in automated testing.

 

Supervision experience desired.

Experience with Test Driven development is desired.

Experience with FIT/FitNesse and NUnit is desired.

Experience with .NET is desired

Experience with continuous integration is desired.

Experience with testing hardware/software systems is desired.
