Voice Network Technician

Position Title:  Voice Network Technician


General Description: Responsible for delivery of voice services.  Maintains and supports voice network components including phone switch, SIP server, network transport, and remote terminals.  


Key Responsibilities: Maintains and supports voice network components including phone switch, SIP server, network transport, and remote terminals. Provide Tier-2 support for toll-free, long distance, backup, billing trouble tickets, carrier trouble tickets and major outages. Design and maintain preventive maintenance schedules for 5E site and field sites hosting transport equipment and remote terminals. Maintain configuration documentation and follow proper change management procedures. Create and maintain support documentation for other team members to provide problem determination and handle routine issues on the voice network. Provide problem determination and handle routine issues for components of the video and data networks. Assist or perform other technical support duties as required by the business or special projects. Actively participate in technical department meetings, assignments, and challenges. Assist with technical solutions, design work, and project management in support of expansions or special projects. Participate in after hour and weekend on call rotations.

 

Skills and Attributes: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills. Understanding of fiber transport networks, telecommunications industry standards, functions and platforms such as; T-1, DS-3, SONET, Microwave, Multiplexer and Transport equipment, PSTN Trunking and SS7. Able to reference support manual documentation and work with contracted phone support. Able to quickly learn new technologies. Demonstrate understanding of IP networking and routing. Demonstrate leadership and accountability. Must be a team player with a can do attitude. Embraces change, investigates alternate solutions, and able to understand business and team goals. Must communicate well orally, in writing, and under pressure.

 

 

Qualifications:

 3 or more years experience in Telecommunications industry. Bachelors degree technology related field or comparable experience. Formal Certification(s) on Lucent 5E a plus.   Some experience working with Windows and Unix servers.
