Wan/Lan Support ITS
Primary Role:
Responsible for administrative, planning, operational, technical aspects and 24 x 7 support of the wide and local area network infrastructure. Plans, analyzes, designs, constructs, implements and maintains the wide and local area network infrastructure.
PLEASE NOTE ** This position can be located in either our Hershey PA Data Center or in our Voorhees New Jersey Location
Key Accountabilities:
Project Responsibilities:
-Technical design and configuration for emerging projects.
- Provide technical designs and configuration of network components of the enterprise landscape
- Project estimation (cost & time)
System Performance:
- Responsible for maintaining optimal performance of network infrastructure architecture issues, such as capacity planning, scalability, failover, backup/recovery, and security of the environment
Change Management:
- Insure compliance with the Change Mangement process
- Supports the team during the development life cycle, including implementing network solutions into the test, development and production environments.
Day to Day Support
- Perform key support activities to install, configure, secure, upgrade, patch, troubleshoot, maintain, tune, monitor, manage, and provide 24x7 on-call support of the network infrastructure
Vendor Relationships:
- Review Vendor Specifications, report findings and make recommendations
Skills:
Complete understanding of Information Technology development practices.
Advanced technical knowledge and understanding of :
Appropriate Operating Systems of firewalls & routers (CISCOS IOS
Protocols (TCP/IP, OSPF, RIP, BGP, BGP-4, IS-IS, IPSEC, VPN, SMTP, SNADS, SONET, ATM, FRAME RELAY, PPP) Communication Models (OSI, X500)
MPLS, VLANS. VoIP
Project management and development methodologies and tools
Architectural components to ensure adherence to software standards and models.
Related areas necessary in the support and enhancement of LAN/WAN networks (e.g. file management and web site maintenance, archiving and record management, and backup and recovery processes)
Knowledge:
Five or more years prior work experience in network technology.
Ability to work independently and make timely decisions
Diagnose network support events
Adherence to documented team compliance expectations.
Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills, including use of the telephone and e-mail.
Advanced knowledge of the supported network hardware and software systems to diagnose, troubleshoot, and recover network support events.
Ability to manage the supported network hardware and software environments
Knowledge of architectural components to ensure adherence to ITS standards and models.
Capabilities in network capacity planning and the maintenance/administration applications for business use.
Planning, prioritization, time management and organization skills
Verbal and written communications skills, including experience with technical documentation, and instructional tools and manuals.
Ability to produce complex documentation and technical writing to record network topologies systems, and security protocols.
Experience in troubleshooting network hardware, and software/connectivity problems including gathering information quickly and accurately diagnosing cause.
Analyze system requirements, prepare budgets and recommend network infrastructure improvements.
Provide responsive and effective customer service in a team work environment
Read, interpret, understand, and apply detailed and complex technical information
May require jobholder to work a rotational shift pattern to provide IT support outside of the normal working day.
May require the jobholder to occasionally provide "on-call" out of hours support during the evenings, nights, and or weekends.
