After initial training, the position is located on Andros Island, Bahamas.Responsible for performing handling, preparation, post run and transport of exercise torpedoes and associated equipment in accordance with NAVAIR/NAVSEA guidelines. Perform mechanical and electrical maintenance and repair on exercise torpedoes (MK-46/MK-50 REXTORP's, MK-48, MOD 4, 5, 6, and MK-46, 50, 54 EXTORP's) and associated equipment in accordance with NAVAIR/NAVSEA guidelines. Operate tractor-trailer, forklift, and overhead cranes. Conduct rigging operations of heavy equipment per NAVFAC standards. Handle, package, transport hazardous ordnance material up to 1.1 per NAVORD standards. Operate torpedo data extraction computer per NAVSEA standards. Operate and maintain the breathing air system in support of the torpedo operations. Provide training and technical guidance to lower level technicians. Perform other duties as assigned. High school graduate or equivalent. Two (2) or more years related experience working in a torpedo shop environment or locally obtained certification in forklift, tractor-trailer, and overhead crane operations. One (1) year electronics technology experience or locally obtained certification in REXTORP preps and weapon data extractions. Valid Drivers License and passport will be required.Must meet eligibility requirements to obtain and maintain the required government security clearance. Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office products with emphasis on word processing. Working knowledge of fax and photocopier. Analytical skills to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems. Attention to detail. Regularly lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds of material and equipment. Pass OTTO II and HEP physical yearly. Work and wear 30 pounds of equipment regularly. Regularly work in a controlled environment where temperature can exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit and be in fill HAZMAT suits utilizing a breathing apparatus. Pass NAVOSH/OSHA respirator certification upon hire. Meet qualifications for Naval ordnance certification program. Overtime, weekend, and holiday work may be required at supervisor's discretion. U.S. Navy Basic and Advanced Underwater Torpedo School is preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills Must be able to reside in remote location with limited medical facilities.
