Web Designer/Developer
Overview:
From its inception, Olin College has sought a team of faculty, administrators and support staff who understand its mission and can help to develop this innovative college in Needham, MA. Summary:
The Web Designer/Developer will act as the liaison for Information Technology in translating user requested web projects into design and implementation. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining Web sites for various areas of the College, rolling out and supporting a content management solution, assisting in the implementation and growth of the College portal (JICS), developing and implementing web interfaces for the student information system, integrating e-commerce capabilities into the Olin Web sites, and assisting in the alpha and beta testing of new products requested by Olin community members.
Duties:
1. Responsible for all web design, production and development for the Institution’s Faculty, Staff, Workgroup and Course’s Web sites.
2. Develop concepts from start to finish, working with various functional groups, including students, faculty and staff.
3. Assist users in defining requirements for projects and respond in a timely manner to end user support requests.
4. Educate and support users in the appropriate use of programming and design tools in order to provide them the knowledge to complete their own projects.
5. Assist in writing technical documents, document and regularly update all programs, patches, fixes, etc.
6. Creating and/or refining graphics and designing interactive sites.
7. Design and development work on the web aspects of the Olin portal.
8. Design and development of additional e-commerce applications.
9. Design and assist in the integration of third party applications such as electronic security web interfaces.
10. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:1-2 years of relevant experience.Strong DHTML skills (HTML, JavaScript, CSS, etc…) required.Ability to hand code and read HTML.Working knowledge of Web 2.0 technologies such as blogs, wikis, podcasting and/or RSS.Experience with a Web scripting language (ASP.NET, ASP, Coldfusion, PHP, etc.). Working experience with at least 3 of the following: Dreamweaver, Adobe PhotoShop, Illustrator, Fireworks, Flash, Adobe Acrobat, Visual Studio, Image Manipulation/Scanning/Optimization.Working knowledge of the complexities and peculiarities of Web development (browsers, graphics, etc.) and GUI tools.Experience with Microsoft IIS, Frontpage extensions, Visual SourceSafe, web / database interactions, object oriented programming concepts a plus.Motivated, self-starterAbility to work well and learn new skills in a rapidly changing technical environmentExcellent customer service, organizational, and communication skills requiredExperience in heterogeneous operating system environments preferredAbility to translate clients needs into design
