Web Systems/Development Manager

The Portland Press Herald seeks a Web Systems/Development manager to be responsible for managing all company websites and Intranets.  Primary responsibilities include managing web developers and systems administrators, managing website design, web application development, hardware maintenance/upgrades, website support, and website security.  Other responsibilities include staying current on the latest technological trends and best practices for website development, and ensuring compliance with industry security standards.  Some hands-on application design/development and systems administration are also required.

 

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

§ B.S. in Computer Science or similar degree plus at least 2 yrs. experience in website mgmt, or 4 yrs of website mgmt. Web development and some system administration experience also required.


§ Strong team management and staff development skills.
§ Strong knowledge of website infrastructures, web application development techniques, and current website security standards.

§ Ability to manage all aspects of web server administration, ensuring consistent reliability and performance on a 24X7 basis.

§ Excellent problem solving skills and ability to work well under pressure.

§ Strong knowledge of Linux, Unix and Mac OS X operating systems.

§ Strong knowledge of Apache server functionality.

§ Ability to support switches, routers and firewalls.

§ Ability to analyze complex business needs and to design appropriate web application solutions that are robust, attractive and intuitive.

§ Ability to develop and maintain web applications that are efficient and highly reliable, using HTML, PHP, MySQL, Javascript and Perl.

§ Ability to develop and maintain shell scripts.

§ Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work closely with business units in designing and implementing web applications.

§ Ability to develop concise, yet thorough, technical documentation and end-user instructions.

§ Working knowledge of frameworks like Drupal.
