Buyer

This position is responsible for supporting all procurement requirements for assigned internal customers group(s) and provides support to the more senior buyers. The buyer conducts and assesses bids, utilizes CPS established contracts; and builds supplier relationships to ensure the best total value of products and services are obtained. The buyer serves as an Agent of Novell, and, as such, has the authority to independently commit and approve funds up to $50K on Novell's behalf.Primary responsibilities include: - Monitoring and distributing incoming requisitions; - Conducting and assessing bids; - Assisting senior buyer with preparing solicitations and analyzing proposals; - Collaborating with internal customers and suppliers to ensure quality goods and services are obtained in a timely manner with a consistent focus on corporate cost savings initiatives; - Managing lower dollar/risk level supplier relationships; - Completing purchasing transactions up to $50K; - Providing support to more senior level buyers; - Working with Accounts Payable and other departments to resolve delivery, suspense, quality and payment problems. Frequent contact with the requisitioners and departments such as, Legal, Marketing and engineering may be required to define needs and/or explore alternatives; - May manage a defined supplier base for complex/critical goods and services.Desired Skill Set:- Basic understanding and usage of purchasing principles, theories, and concepts - Excellent/effective interpersonal, teaming, verbal and written communication skills - Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills - Display a positive attitude, is highly motivated, and results oriented.Experience and Education:- 1-3 yrs. of procurement experience - BS/BA degree in a related field desired - Working knowledge of Oracle a plus - Proficient in the use of Open Office SuiteCandidate must be able to demonstrate commensurate work experience, advanced training and or professional certification to meet position requirements.
