Summary:  The Controls Software Engineer is responsible for the creation and maintenance of software used in the hardware control and automation of Stratasys products.  Critical attributes of the final software products include reliability, ease of use, performance, and ease of service.  Critical attributes of the design include ease of future maintenance and extensibility.  The software engineer typically designs, codes, and tests from a given specification and often works closely with electrical hardware engineers. All activity is primarily done within a team environment following an agreed upon process which includes peer reviews of all work output.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (Other duties may be assigned):

· Contributes to company planning by creating specifications, work estimates, and schedule updates.

· Contributes to quality design by preceding each implementation with a design of appropriate detail (reviewed by others) and by reviewing peer’s designs.

· Helps achieve an efficient and maintainable product by developing and testing well-documented code that meets requirements and maintains a low defect level while adhering to the documented design, the company standards, and schedule.

· Pro-actively informs stakeholders of status/information in a timely manner and in an appropriate fashion.

· Innovates, recommends and drives product feature improvements such as usability or performance.

· Responsible for execution per Product Development Process (proposal, schedule, milestones, peer reviews, program reviews, system integration, testing, and product rollout support) when assigned to a product development team.

· Furthers the work of teams by assuming joint responsibility with others and by effective communication and coordination.  Takes initiative by accepting responsibility above and beyond assigned tasks and by promoting new ideas.

· Contributes to company technical advancement through advice and investigation.  Strives for technical expertise in areas of interest or assigned specialization.

· Innovates, recommends, and drives process and tool improvement.

· Participates actively in and seeks out various educational and training opportunities to maintain up-to-date technical expertise.

 

Essential Skills and Experience:

· Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Math, or other engineering or science

· 2 years minimum directly applicable experience, 3-5 years is ideal

· 2+ years of C++, object-oriented programming experience.  Linux and embedded, real-time software programming experience desired, but not required.

· Skills in verbal and written communications and problem solving.
