Responsibilities 

 

The Business Analyst II is responsible for assessing business needs, analyzing data, setting quality thresholds and preparing requirements documents. In this role, the analyst will work closely with the business team to provide insight about our data, translate business needs into data requirements, and work with Technology to implement data in order to meet the business objective. You will be working with publically available data in a state of the art data center.

 

Subject Matter Expertise

 Assumes ownership of data sets within a subject matter. Serves as the central contact point for knowledge of the origins and revisions to those data sets Ability to provide insight and recommendations on data as a result of analysis findings Manages and reports on data quality Provides insight and recommendations on data as a result of analysis findings Combine business knowledge with data insight and analysis to determine the appropriate sources of data for proposed application Responsible for creating and maintaining the metadata to ensure completeness of content Define standards of key/critical datasets including thresholds and expectation of quality, currency, and content to be used for trending purposes Develop validation rules to ensure the quality of data including whether data conforms to company standards

 Design and Integration

 Creates executive summary and recommendations based on full detailed analysis Develops and own business and data requirements, including business rules for any new project Proactively research/analyze how each data group impacts products and customers Assesses the business risk involved for integrating new data into existing databases Tracks data sources by vendor, products and applications Understands the needs of the business as it relates to the vertical markets Understands how the data can contribute to customer solutions Ensures best practices set forth by the business unit are enforced Relationship Management and Troubleshooting Partners effectively with both business and technical stakeholders Provide guidance to Development teams to resolve data integration issues Create and maintain customer facing reference material on data sources Partners with Data Acquisition on usage & contract restrictions, compliance rules, and royalties 

 Knowledge and Skills 

 Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Three or more years experience in data analysis, developing requirements and written documentation Experience developing and writing requirements.  Ability to translate business needs into requirements Must be able to work effectively with both business and technical stakeholders Ability to perform data analysis and create logical data modelsThis person must be a self-starter and have the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environmentAbility to communicate effectively with customers both verbally and in writing Analytical skills to understand and define requirements Strong problem solving-skills

Technical Skills

 Proficient in SQL. Must be able to develop queries and modify existing ones Oracle and/or SQL Server, UnixExperience with commercial tools used to collect, maintain and analyze data such as Informatica Data Explorer,  TOAD, SQL Navigator, MS, SSIS, SAS Understanding of data integration applications
