GENERAL SUMMARY:

 

Implement and maintain databases.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities 

 

A)  ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

1.  Evaluates performance of databases and responds to issues that arise related to databases.

2.  Troubleshoots database issues.

3.  Supports developers and QA by maintaining test environments and configuring databases to development specifications.

4.  Supports the design and development of new systems, and redesign of existing systems to fulfill the needs of customers.

5.  Owns primary support for multiple production platforms, including after hours support, and off-hours maintenance.

6.  Acts as a subject matter expert on Oracle Databases.

 

 

B)  OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.  Assists developers with design of new features in terms of the feature’s impact to databases.

2.  Assists in the configuration of system monitoring tools to monitor application environments

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Works in a normal office environment with minimal travel required.  Position requires participation in on-call rotation.

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS 

 

A) ESSENTIAL:

 

Education:  BA/BS in Computer Science or related discipline

 

Experience:  3-5 years Oracle DBA experience, primarily in a Unix (preferably Sun Solaris)

 

Knowledge Oracle 9.2, Oracle 10.x.x, PostgreSQL, Unix scripting languages - korn, bash, Perl, PL/SQL, Good SQL coding skills, JDBC, ODBC, Stored Procedures, Database Import / export, Distributed processing using database links, Rsync, Ssh/scp

 

Skills: Must possess a strong work ethic, be able to learn new technologies quickly, and work well in a dynamic, team environment, experience working in a highly available, enterprise class operations environment; ability to recognize complexity and priority of problems, including ability to determine when to escalate and when to delegate.

 

 

B) DESIRED: 

Knowledge:  Oracle dataguard - Physical Standby database, Oracle dataguard - Logical Standby database, Oracle on Windows, Veritas Cluster Server, Network Appliance (NetApp), Oracle Real Application Cluster (RAC), Multi Threaded Server, WebLogic Appl server, Embarcadero Suite (DBArtisan, ERStudio)
