Developer / Manager
I. ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Review And Analyze Customer Specifications
· Clarify and validate functionality based on project specifications.
· Review Specifications and seek clarification from Business Analyst or other appropriate team member on components, business rules and relationship to existing products etc.
· Write code that is effective, efficient and adheres to company accepted coding standards.
· Develop only functionality that has been approved as part of an approved project.
2. Prepare Technical Design Documentation
· Document Technical specifications for the modification that fulfill the business design specifications.
· Adhere to technical design review and approval process defined by the product architect team.
· Clarify with project manager, functional expectations.
3. Design Implementation/Modifications
· Uses one of the company’s selected development tools/programming languages to write code according to specifications and designs to modify an existing software application.
· Modify existing modules and develop new modules to build required functionality according to specifications laid out in the technical design document.
· Utilize “company standard” documentation guidelines, i.e. to record changes in code, utilize natural language, meaningful and understood by all readers, and industry approved business abbreviations, only.
· Document all Bug fixes, (documentation) in Source Safe.
· Stay in touch with user’s feedback to ensure product is more user- friendly and meets customer’s functionality requirements.
· Maintain an ongoing communication process with fellow developers to ensure consistent and efficient code.
· Participate in peer “code reviews” to identify and resolve problems to ensure adherence to coding standards, and improve effectiveness and efficiency of code.
· Compile code, run on target platform and test for functionality according to the design specifications.
· Unit test all code to ensure proper functionality of all paths through code.
4. Unit Testing
· Create a test plan in accordance with established QA standards, or use existing tool, for use in validating functionality and usability of all code.
· Test all modifications to insure that they function according to specifications laid out in the technical specs.
· Test every path through all code changes to ensure proper functionality.
· Complete all unit testing prior to checking any code into SourceSafe.
5. Support
· Address issues identified from the incident tracking process. Work with Product Support Specialist to understand customer’s perspective and to establish a solution for the user.
· Update incident tracker with technical and non-technical descriptions for all resolved incidents.
6. Documentation
· Update technical specification to reflect any changes in approach identified after the technical specifications are finalized.
· Participate in the code review process to ensure that all changes are approved by the in-house architectural review board and documented appropriately.
· Participate in team discussions to ensure appropriate and accurate documentation.
· Write clear and concise technical documentation for new/existing features.
· Accurately and completely comment all code modifications.
II. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS ABILITIES:
This individual must have a firm knowledge of software development processes and selected programming languages, platforms, and technologies, including:
· VB 6.0 and/or C++ in a client-server and/or multi-tiered environment.
· .Net
· Object oriented methodologies and technologies including COM and DCOM.
· SQL Server, Oracle and MS Access.
· SQL-Structured Query Language.
· Data Analysis and Reporting
· Have strong conceptual and design skills.
· Have an ability to learn quickly and adapt successfully to new development environments and tools.
· Have the ability to work as a productive, self-motivated team member and to produce under tight deadlines
· Have experience working in a complex technical and organizational environment.
· Troubleshooting and resolving technical problems related to PCs, hardware, software, and networking.
· Becomes proficient at designing within the Q architecture.
· Obtains a working knowledge of the HHS industry.
· Provides new ideas for continuous improvement of operational processes, procedures, productivity and products.III. QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to the following:
· A Bachelor of Science degree in computer science three to five (3-5) years experience in coding software in a client server or multi-tiered environment using one or more of the selected languages.
OR
· Five to ten (5 to 10) years of related work experience.
