Advanced Development Director, R&D Engineering
VMware Inc., a pioneer in virtualization software for industry-standard computers, is seeking a Software Engineering Director to join the Advanced Development Engineering team. The candidate will have product responsibility for an advanced research project in the mobile space as well as management responsibility for an engineering team.

Responsibilities:
As a Director for the advanced development team, you will be responsible for:
• Working closely with the development engineers, other team Managers, and Lead Engineers to deliver capabilities for upcoming R&D releases.
• Working with cross-functional teams (Product Management, QA, etc.) to ensure areas of responsibility meet the quality and feature requirements for each release
• Responsible for staffing, budget setting and resource management
• Coaching and motivating team members to ensure a highly productive, efficient team
• Some travel is required
Requirements:
• 6+ years' direct experience managing a diversified and high-performing team. 8+ years of software product development.
o Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from a reputable university. MSCS desirable
• Solid working knowledge of operating systems (kernel level) and micro architectures
o Desirable: Previous experience in embedded systems/ARM architecture
• Strong organizational, people management, project management and customer interaction skills.
o Excellent teamwork and leadership skills
o Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently and under a fast pace environment
o Good verbal and written communication skills and software design skills
• Proven ability to deliver commercial quality software.
• Must be experienced in software development methodology and software engineering practices
