Job Description Distributed Systems Software Engineer We are looking for a Distributed Systems Software Engineer/LINUX on behalf of our client, Akamai Technologies.  This position is based in Cambridge, MA. SummaryAkamai is the global leader in distributed computing solutions and services, helping organizations grow their online businesses without growing their IT infrastructures. With thousands of servers in hundreds of networks around the world, we use our computational and network power to transform the chaotic Internet into a predictable, scalable, and secure business platform.Responsibilities Akamai is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design and develop the next generation distributed processing and communications infrastructure within the System Communications team.  System Communications develops and supports communications and data collection infrastructure for Akamai's distributed Platform.  These systems distribute configuration data, control information, and customer streaming traffic to Akamai's distributed servers.  These systems also publish, aggregate, and deliver internal-system and customer data for use by internal and customer-facing monitoring, alerting, and reporting applications.  These systems are among the largest in the world, which brings unique engineering challenge for developing distributed, scalable, and fault-tolerant systems. As part of this elite team, you will analyze, design and implement system software that brings new functionality, increased reliability, and enhanced scalability to Akamai’s system. This is a highly motivated and cooperative team, relying on the abilities of all its members to develop innovative and elegant solutions.  You must be a self-starter who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.  You must be able to work collaboratively within the team and with other teams at Akamai. Qualifications Degree in Computer Science or relevant engineering field. 3+ years of software development. Solid programming experience in C/C++ and/or Perl/Python Familiarity with Linux or UNIX operating system. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to work in a small-team environment.
