GIS Intern 8102

P2 Energy Solutions, Inc. is seeking Interns.  Under direct supervision, utilizes GIS software packages to enter, prepare, edit, and access digital data to fulfill project requirements.

 

Candidate must be flexible and excited about working in a fast paced company; have proven communication and organizational skills; and be willing and able to focus on both internal and external customer service to meet business needs.

 

Position Responsibilities

· Prepares data for digital conversion from source documents.

· Digitizes and or edits data computer files.

· Identifies what a topological spatial database is in order to ensure that the data meets necessary standards.

· Meets established deadlines for tasks or projects.

 

Special Skills/Competencies

· Basic understanding of the key concepts of Maps to be able to explain them in layman's terms.

· Introductory understanding of the key concepts of GIS to be able to explain them in layman's terms.

· Introductory understanding of the underlying data models for the most prevalent GIS software packages and data delivery formats. 

· Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

· Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

· Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. 

· Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

· Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

· Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

Requirements

· High School Degree or equivalent and one year work experience in GIS or college/technical school education; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

· Basic computer skills/knowledge. Must know basic MSWord, Excel and Access.
