Overview
As a Global Manager this person is responsible for the management, development and coordination of the geographically diverse sub-teams comprising the Database Engineering Team. This person is responsible for developing and championing the philosophy of involving database expertise in all development projects and teams and furthering the goals of data integrity, and application/database performance, stability, concurrency and scalability. This person must have excellent client liaison, negotiation, planning and project management skills. The candidate must be capable of working in a global environment across multiple time zones and be able to manage a team of skilled technical individuals with strong independent points of view.

Responsibilities
Manage the Team – manage and develop the Database Engineering Team. Ensure that the processes in place for managing the team and its workflows are adhered to and developed and progress and promote the philosophies of the Database Engineering Team. Manage the People – ensure each individual's areas of expertise are appropriately used and individuals are encouraged to develop expertise within and beyond their current domain of expertise. Resource & Project Management – ensure resources are available and appropriately assigned to development projects to support business needs and tat all are managed to time and budget constraints. Client Management – ensure client's needs are met. Develop sound partnerships with development and infrastructure teams. Mentor – be a technical lead for the Database Engineering Team and the wider development community especially as it relates to sound database and data architecture principles. Partner with the Information Architecture team to ensure the development of mutual philosophies and goals. Innovation – encourage team members to initiate new technical innovation in the data management domain.



Requirements
Minimum of 6+ years database development experience in a Sybase ASE, Oracle environment preferred. Minimum of 4+ years data warehouse experience. He/She must have played a major role in all stages of the project life cycle. 10 or more years as a DBA and/or Database Developer in a relational environment. Able to install, configure and tune Sybase or Oracle data server software. Experience with, or willingness to learn, SYBASE IQ, Sybase ASE and Microsoft SQL Server physical database design. Experience with database virtualization technologies and other non-relational data management and capture/summarization technologies. Experience with various Data warehousing methodologies Experience in negotiating standards, mentoring and training developers of varying experience. Experience providing support in an on call fashion to developers providing production support, as required. Proven ability to provide support for developer requests. This includes query tuning, server tuning, identifying problematic code, root cause analysis, design issues etc. Ability to perform logical and physical database design, SQL coding and assist developers with SQL questions, including the areas of functionality and performance Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems quickly; document issues from production problems, propose solutions and implement them. Position requires candidate to carry a pager and/or cell phone 24/7 and participate in global conference calls out of business hours as expected in an environment spanning three only marginally overlapping time zones. Continually contribute to group processes, techniques, knowledge, etc. to improve application and environment stability and group productivity. Familiarity with at least 3GL/4GL programming languages including an OO language preferably Java. Also shell scripting. Experience in strategically formulating the direction of a development support team and managing day to day staff issues and development plans.
