Java Development Team Lead - Online Video Systems



Under the direction of the Director of Application Development, this position is responsible for leading certain web application development projects for Playboy Online. While these applications primarily are focused on the delivery of digital video and other interactive media, other systems may be developed based on the needs of the business.

This position works closely with customers, colleagues, and other stakeholders to design, build, and maintain systems to support critical business strategies. This position interacts frequently with the Video Operations, Technology, Technical Product Management, Marketing, Creative/Editorial, and Business Operations Groups and with key contacts in other Operating Groups as well as externally with users, vendors, and industry professionals.RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.  Lead development projects to support Playboy’s digital video and interactive media delivery systems

2.  Development and support of J2EE based web applications (and other technologies as appropriate)

3.Collaboration with business and technical stakeholders to understand their needs, design solutions and build appropriate applications

4. Estimate resource needs for development projects

5.  Ensure that project deliverables are completed accurately and in a timely fashion

6.  Work closely with the Quality Assurance team to eliminate defects and ensure application stability and scalability

7. Work closely with other development teams to integrate applications with billing, content management, affiliate management and other unified platforms.

8.Act as a contributor in setting design and development standards, and ensure that applications are compliant with these

9. Collaborate with members of the Online Operations leadership team to develop and enforce platform standards and KPIs

10. Collaborate with Corporate I.T. team to architect systems which are reliable and scalable to the business’ needs

11.Provide mentorship and training to the Video and New Media Platform team.12.Interface with outside vendors and attend professional forums as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:5+years of increasing responsibility working in software or web application development organizations, developing and maintaining high-volume commercial online systems. Must have experience taking a leadership role in development projects. Developing or implementing commercial online video and/or interactive media delivery systems. Structured, process-oriented software development environment; Agile (XP, Scrum) development methodologies a significant plus.  Working knowledge of the following technologies and concepts required: Java/J2EE, Frameworks such as Struts / Spring / Hibernate and EJB, OO Design Patterns, Apache HTTP Server, JBoss Application Server, Tomcat, Oracle, Content Management Systems, SOA/Web Services (SOAP & REST), AJAX/RIA, Source Code Management (Perforce) and Continuous Integration (Cruise), Agile Project Management Tools (Rally).  Experience with streaming video delivery (Windows Media Server, Adobe Flash/FLEX, and/or Silverlight) strongly preferred. LAMP application stack a plus. Knowledge of the Web and Internet industry, strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment, required. Bachelor’s degree in CS, MIS or related technical discipline.
