Java Framework Engineer Responsibilities Collaborate with the Orbitz Architecture Team to evolve and extend a core framework and APIs according to business and technology needs.  Become an authority on the Orbitz Platform architecture, business services and applications. Participate in the design of new fundamental APIs and evolve existing ones. Instruct a large population of developers in the use of the framework and tools.  Author and maintain a wiki detailing the use of the framework, the user interface and application management controls. Review customer impacting events to ensure that core frameworks provide enough flexibility and reliability and make appropriate changes when needed. Participate in root cause analysis to diagnose availability, reliability and performance issues.  Work with architecture and product development teams to determine suitable remedies. Evaluate third party solutions for fundamental system-building components such as logging, application configuration, JMS, application containers, etc.. Required experience and skills BS in Computer Science or related field, or related, relevant experience. 2+ years of experience in Java development Solid understanding of Object-Oriented Programming concepts. Prior experience collaborating with other developers on software development projects using industry standard techniques and methodologies. Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to deliver clear and concise communication to management and documentation to development teams. Desired experience and skills. Experience with large scale, high volume, high availability Java applications. Experience with building distributed systems using JINI, EJB or other remoting frameworks. Familiarity with JBoss and the Spring Framework/IOC containers. Practical experience with Aspect-Oriented Programming (AOP). Experience with Python or Ruby. Experience in a fast-paced environment. Start-up or Internet exposure valuable. Passion for optimizing the entire application stack from low level OS/JVM issues to distributed computing scalability concerns. Tenacious problem solving abilities and grace under pressure. Ability to innovate and promote creative solutions to architectural issues.
