The .Mac Systems Engineering Group is responsible for installing, configuring and maintaining all application systems related to the service. The majority of our systems are OS X Xserves or Sun-Solaris 10 servers. The applications running on those servers are a mix of standard software packages as well as internally developed applications written mostly in Java, Web Objects or Objective C.We are looking for an experienced Senior Unix Systems Administrator that wants a challenge in a cutting edge, fast paced environment.Pager support is a requirement of this position.Eligible candidates should:- always act with customers in mind- be able to learn quickly when facing new problems- be able to handle multiple tasks and switch between them quickly- evaluate priorities and use time effectively and efficiently concentrating efforts on the more important tasks- quickly grasp the essence and the underlying structure of things- deal with concepts and complexity comfortably- enjoy the challenge of unfamiliar tasksResponsibilities:- Provide second-tier on call support for production services. Identify, troubleshoot and resolve production issues quickly and effectively under pressure.- Participate in the 24x7 pager rotation for 750+ production systems supporting over 1 million customers.- Develop tools and scripts to facilitate improvement and to support ongoing maintenance of a growing environment.- Define and write clear and succinct technical documentation related to systems and applications as necessary.- Install and setup systems as required to support growth and new projects.- Work well in a team environment and be able to work with and provide feedback of technical information to developers to identify and resolve issues.- Provide recommendations for scalability and performance improvement.- Work independently on new projects, completing them on time.Requirements:- Technical BS/MS degree- 5+ years in UNIX system administration in a large scale production environment (at least 200+ servers).- Strong background in OSX/BSD, Solaris and networking- Good communication skills, both verbally and written.- Familiarity with the following tools: Apache, postfix, ssh, Perl, tcpdump, WebObjects and Java a plus- Load balancers - (Citrix Netscalers, Foundry ServerIrons, etc)- Experience with NetApp, EMC, SANs, NAS, or other high-performance storage systems- XServe-RAID/Fiber Channel- UNIX shell scripting- Veritas products (Volume Manager, etc)- Nagios or BigBrother, Cacti, Cricket or other RRD-based reporting tool Perk #56: New ways to stretch your mind.
