Manager, Interaction Design

Manager (Manager/Supervisor of Staff) Location: US-NY-Rochester Status: Full Time, Employee Relevant Work Experience: 5+ to 7 Years Job Description Manager, Interaction Design Manager, Interaction Design ("XD"), reporting to the Director, Digital Capture & Devices User Experience Group ("DC&D UX"), is responsible for leading and supervising the Interaction Design group. In addition, this position is responsible for acting as the portfolio manager for user experience activities related to Mobile devices within DC&D. Responsibilities: Ensuring the delivery of superior interaction design deliverables across the DC&D portfolio as measured by competitiveness and relevance to user needs. Coordinating the assignment of internal and external resources to projects in accordance with a variable workforce model. Ensuring adherence to budget and schedule requirements. Setting targets for technical contributions and enabling staff to reach those targets. Developing and implementing work processes that enhance productivity. Coaching team members in technical methods and organizational dynamics. Conducting reviews of employee performance. Communicating proactively upward, across, and downward to ensure user experience issues are given due diligence within the product development process. Contributing directly to project deliverables as an Interaction Designer (as needed) Required Skills / Experience: Leadership and professional experience in User Interaction Design management — 6 years or more. Demonstrated strong leadership and change management skills within a team environment. Excellent communication and negotiation skills. Drive for results. Proven organizational and project planning skills, including creation of design briefs and RFQs ("Request for Quotation"), creation and implementation of SOWs ("Statement of Work"), and external resource management. Direct relevant experience in managing design support with a variable workforce model: part internal staff and part external suppliers. Direct experience and responsibility for internal resource planning and forecasting, experience in contributing to annual resource planning and budgeting. Demonstrated experience in interactive authoring techniques and user-centered design methodologies. Proficiency in all Adobe Creative Suite 3 applications and interactive multimedia authoring and scripting tools such as: Flash, HTML, XML, ActionScript. Experience in utilizing Clients and Profits project planning software, preferred. QUALIFICATIONS: MA/MS/MFA degree preferred. Emphasis in consumer electronics interface design. Candidates with BFA and equivalent, relevant exp. and supporting portfolio of work will be considered.
