Duties and Responsibilities:

 

- Design the architecture necessary to sustain the business.

- Use software or write scripts for performance monitoring.

- Create test plan for database upgrade or migration.

- Provide DBA support in a production environment to minimize system down time and ensure system availability in accordance with business requirements.

- Work with projects managers to determine needs, set priorities, create project plans and determine schedules.

- Perform necessary check on integrity of databases according to plan and correct when needed.

- Monitor the system to identify and address problems before they become critical.

- Manage backup and recovery both on-site and off-site.

- Coordinate resources among projects and optimize the resource utilization.

- Set procedural standards for how people use database and manage role-based security.

- Upgrade, fix, and migrate to new versions of software and hardware platforms

 

Experience & Knowledge: 

Experience

- 7 years experience with MS SQL 2000 Server installation, configuration & management.

- 3-5 years experience in Windows 2003 environment and DBA support for multiple, complex applications.

- 3 years experience supporting 24 x 7 environments.

- 2-3 years experience working in a web hosting/application support role.

- Experience in dealing with large production servers (preferably in e-commerce domain).

- Experience with Oracle an asset.



 

Education & Certification: 

Education

- BA or BS in Computer and Information Sciences or equivalent work experience.

Certification

- MCDBA is an asset.
