About the position

 

National Notification Network (3n) is seeking an Oracle DBA who will report to the Sr. Manager of Technology Services.  This position is responsible for administering the production Oracle database management services (DBMS), consisting of Oracle 10g RAC with Streams replication to redundant sites.  Primary areas of responsibility will include:

 Management of data replication process.SQL performance tuning, cost based optimization, and optimizer hints.Oracle installation, upgrades, patches, and downgrades. Database cloning. Database creation and tuning including software disk device usage and tablespace configurations.Monitor and maintain delivery system availability and integrity including backup and archiving, database recovery, disaster recovery and system response time.Assist with capacity planning and project growth of disk space usage.Establish and monitor database lifecycle standards, procedures, and practices.Interact effectively with IT and QA team members and work effectively with all members of management Evaluate and implement new software versions to maintain optimal delivery levels, including patch installation and database upgrades. Maintain relationship with vendor technical support to ensure quick response to problems.Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals and complete projects in a timely manner and with budget considerations in mind.

· Assist and perform data loads into the application.

· Will carry a pager and be available 24x7 to provide production support and resolve problems, as well as work unscheduled hours in the evenings and on weekends on special projects. Extended hours may be required to accommodate special requirements.

Other responsibilities are as follows:

 

· Database architecture and designWork extensively with application development team to plan and implement efficient updates to the database and application code as it relates to the database.Provide support for design queries and applications, make query changes and application enhancements, test changes, document work and move to production.Develop PL/SQL, database triggers and stored procedures, basic shell scripting.Develop SQL scripts for automated deployment of database objects.Perform other duties as required.

 

 

 

The Ideal candidate will possess:

 5 or more years of database administration experience using Oracle 9 or higher (experience using Oracle 10g a plus).Experience in a RAC environment is required.Experience in Oracle Streams is a definite plus.Expertise in database performance monitoring and tuning tools (10g GRID control preferred).Fundamental knowledge of hardware and UNIX operating systems (Linux preferred).

· Prefer BS in computer science or related field.

· Ability to work independently or within a team. Highly self-motivated and directed with experience working in a team oriented, collaborative environment. Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively interact with departmental clients during system development and work effectively with all levels of management.

· Must be extremely well organized and very detailed oriented. Must have project management skills and the proven ability to prioritize tasks.Excellent communication, analytical and technical documentation skills.Skills in SQL and PL/SQL a plus

· Application development experience in a J2EE environment a plus.Experience in logical database design and database design tools.
