Akamai - Powering a Better Internet. Akamai is looking for a smart, self-starting, Operations Lead to join an engineering team dedicated to a new and exciting service offering. Akamai's Content Delivery Network delivers 10-20% of all web traffic and therefore collects an enormous amount from this unique vantage of the Internet. The person in this position will work on a new service that works with this data, while making a very large impact on the team, Akamai, customers, and the industry. We are looking for someone that has the motivation and capability to move at a startup pace, build upon existing components, combine their own ingenuity, and produce Akamai-class systems. As a member of this growing team, you will own and manage operations of an advanced proprietary system as well as design, develop, and maintain tools aimed at making operations sustainable, efficient, and effective. You will also be responsible for ensuring the highest quality of service, so candidates with QA experience are encouraged to apply. You will be an active participant in all phases of the software cycle from designs through deployment and maintenance. Your contributions will run on Akamai’s platform, built for 24x7, real-time, fault tolerant operation. Responsibilities include: * Own all operations of the new service offering, while working with other operations members from around the company * Design, develop, and maintain innovative operations-oriented tools, likely in multiple languages * Contribute domain knowledge and experience to a highly capable team * Work in a small team environment focused on common goals * Follow good development methodology with appropriate documentation and testing strategies Akamai is seeking an experienced, self-motivated, highly productive software engineer. The ideal candidate meets meeting the following qualification: * 4+ years experience with managing all aspects of operations in a large scale, distributed system * 2+ years experience with C/C++ development in Linux/Unix environment * 2+ years experience with scripting, automation, Perl or similar * 1+ years experience with database design and development * Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, startup-minded, small team environment * Extensive experience with networking of large scale systems * Excellent written and oral communication skills * BS in Computer Science, MIS, or equivalent Experience with one or more of the following is highly recommended: * System- and unit-level testing and associated tools * Database optimization and performance techniques * Caching and compression techniques * Network programming, specifically IP, TCP, and HTTP Contact us!
