FTG develops and maintains an array of customer and client web sites, manages the technology infrastructure, provides and supports firm-wide applications, ensures IT security to power the company and delivers the best, most secure customer experience.  Position Description The principal database performance expert is responsible for consulting with Fidelity application database teams and other database support teams to troubleshoot historical and real-time production and development database performance problems.  Based on collected performance data this expert provides tuning recommendations for both database configuration and application queries to remove bottlenecks and improve over all application performance.  The person selected will work with a team of other operating system, network and storage performance experts to cover end-to-end application performance troubleshooting.  Primary Responsibilities  Troubleshoot historical and real-time database bottlenecks Recommend database modifications to improve application performance Assist team in isolating application performance issues to the correct sub-team (DB, OS, Network, SAN) Develop and drive database performance data collection tool architecture Participate in rotating on-call for after hours database performance analysis Work with vendors to stay abreast of performance related changes and improvements Provide risk assessment for internal database support teams on potential database parameter changesEducation and Experience:  Seasoned database administrator with thorough understanding of Oracle and UDB databases running on AIX, Solaris and linux operating systems Must possess in-depth knowledge of database performance tuning Must have a good understanding of how database performance relates to the operating system, network and storage performance functions 7-10 years of Oracle database administration experience 3-5 years of IBM UDB database administration experienceSkills and Knowledge:  Oracle database administration IBM UDB database administration Strong architectural understanding of database structures, internal database tables and constructs, and system database interactions Strong presentation, analytical, diagnostic and creative problem solving skills.
