Principal Web Engineer



Job Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Technology, the Principal Web Engineer is responsible for developing, maintaining and owning ASA’s technical web architecture.  The PWE will identify and plan the use of specific web technologies and tools to be used for web development, and will identify and implement industry best practices around their use.  They will be responsible for creating and directing the use of the frameworks and methodologies used for web development.  The PWE will provide leadership and direction to ASA’s web development staff, and will also have a hands-on role in designing and implementing of ASA’s architecture.

 

Essential Functions:Design and maintain web architecture and infrastructure, addressing the performance, scalability, and robustness of the implementation.Evaluate and select appropriate technologies and products for ASA’s web development needs.Develop prototype web solutions and infrastructure for future project and/or production use.Own and manage a framework for content management within our web development framework.Perform web capacity planning and project changes needed to accommodate anticipated growth. Monitor our web applications, identifying problem areas and hot-spots, isolating performance and scalability issues, and recommending solutions.  Develop web deployment policies and solutions for operational use.Be a focal point for the design and development of ASA’s next generation of web sites. Contribute substantially to the overall system architecture and take ownership of the design and development of all web technology and components.

Qualifications:BA or BS in Computer Science or related discipline; Masters preferred.8+ years proven ability and experience in architecting, designing, and developing enterprise-class web-based solutionsFamiliarity with Student Loan Industry, Financial Education Industry, and/or Educational Web Software a plusExperience in building scalable 24x7 operation
