QA Manager - Make QA a 1st Class Element in Our Agile Development Process

The Quality Assurance Manager who's led a QA organization for companies that sell and deliver software to paying customers has an excellent opportunity to "spend" all that bankrolled experience and re-invent the Quality function within our company. In this highly autonomous role, working out of our Phoenix, Arizona, office and managing 10 direct reports in Austin and Phoenix, you'll have the latitude to put your personal imprint on our QA organization. You'll be challenged to get QA on equal footing with Development and Documentation within our overall Agile development methodology and drive our heavy push toward more automated testing.

As our Phoenix, Arizona-based Quality Assurance Manager, you'll embark on a department wide revamping of QA that will leverage your experience with companies that supported both legacy customers with patch releases and new product introductions. The experience best suited here will be enterprise software delivery to paying customers, not working as a consultant or with an internal IT department whose "product" was an internal release. We'll look to you to bring more quality and efficiency to the testing process and test the cases themselves. To accomplish this, you'll study the organization, set goals and create processes that encourage open sharing and review of test cases within QA and with the Development team. Your efforts to set objectives and hold individuals accountable will also serve to improve performance in this area. A second major contribution you can make is ensuring more methodology and rigor with how your department interacts through test plans and metrics. Your charter will be to get QA out of the isolation tank, as it were, and get your department involved at the initial requirements review phase. In this way, after hearing the Development teams plan their work, QA can anticipate its testing workload against the deliverable, with additional details filled in during the iterative development process. This allows you to track execution against expectations. Finally, you'll drive our push toward more automation, establishing a solid automation infrastructure your team can use. Ideal candidates not only understand the overall set of test cases, but also how they apply to the overall organizational goals. Categorization will be key, and will allow your department to take into account basic product functionality and "edge cases" involving, for example, multi-platform support and internationalization.
