This Quality Engineer / Performance Testing position will plan, execute, analyze and report results on technical testing activities such as performance, stress, load, scalability and load-to-fail testing, to validate adherence to technical specifications. Under direction of the Quality Engineer – Performance Testing Lead: - Review existing technical/performance-requirements and collaborate with the project-team to extend or restructure them as necessary for completeness and coverage. Develop test models based upon the requirements that provide full traceability and visibility into the structure and organization of the performance-test. - Analyze system designs and perform technical test planning for multi-tiered systems including performance, stress, load, scalability and load-to-fail testing. - Perform testing within the runtime-environment provided by The Standard by designing, developing and executing automated tests using HP/Mercury Interactive Performance Center (LoadRunner), including the Vu-Gen (specifically the HTTP, Web-Services, and Citrix protocols), Analysis, and Controller components. - Monitor the hosting platforms during the performance tests and understand how and where to look for bottlenecks within each hosting component (e.g. web server, application server, Oracle, etc.). Possess the ability to ramp-up quickly on the performance-related characteristics of new architectural components as they are introduced into the organization. - Analyze test-results and provide clearly documented reports that include findings and recommendations. - Consult with architecture, design and development teams on considerations for optimal performance given the technical requirements and specifications. - Perform technical testing during The Standard's business hours as well as after-hours, as specified by the project-team and operational / business considerations. Education: Bachelor or Science in Computer Science or related field. Master Degree a plus. Experience: Three to five years experience in performance-testing of multi-tiered environments; or the equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience. Background in design and development of web-based, multi-tiered solutions (J2EE or Microsoft) using Java/J2EE, C++, C# or similar language/framework. Three years of dedicated performance-testing experience with the HP/Mercury LoadRunner or Performance Center tools, including the Vu-Gen (specifically the HTTP, Web-Services, and Citrix protocols), Analysis, and Controller components. Experience with advanced performance-testing concepts, including correlation, parameterization, checkpoints, transactional definitions, dynamic error-recovery, and IP-spoofing. Ability to monitor all layers of the application infrastructure during the test and isolate performance-problems to a specific layer or technology. Good working knowledge of the technical architecture of IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS), IBM HTTP Server (IHS), IBM Tivoli Access Manager (TAM), Solaris, and Microsoft Windows platforms. Six hours of college course-work (or equivalent) in basic and advanced statistical analysis.
