SAN Software Engineer

Description:Job Summary:As a Software Engineer you will work as part of a team responsible for actively participating in driving product development and strategy. In addition, you will participate in activities that include testing and debugging of operating systems that run NetApp storage applications. As part of the Research and Development function, the overall focus of the group is on competitive market and customer requirements, technology advances, product quality, product cost and time-to-market. Software engineers focus on enhancements to existing products as well as new product development.The SAN SCSI Target Software Engineer is responsible for the design, development, debug and support of SAN SCSI Target interfaces and virtualization elements in Data ONTAP. The individual will work closely with other members of the SAN development, SAN QA and SAN interoperability teamsEssential Functions:- A major part of your responsibility will be to participate in any and/or all phases of the product development cycle from product definition and design, through implementation including:- Testing- Test automation- Debugging- Reliability - Performance analysis- Critical and/or high visibility customer support- As part of a team, you will lead and participate in technical discussions within the immediate group and across functions, where evaluating and executing design and development plans for products are reviewed. - You will have direct influence on the decisions and outcomes related to project direction.Required Technical Capabilities Storage technologies SCSI Command Set SCSI Target Implementation SAN systems development and integration High-availability storage - failover/failback between controllers Storage virtualization Clustered / scalable storageDesired Technical Capabilities RAID Block-based storage virtualization iSCSI, FC, and Infiniband Protocols and Transports TCP/IP offload Multiprocessor kernel Kernel experience in Unix, Linux, BSD or other Unix derivatives Device drivers SCSI, SAS, and SATA protocolsIndustry standards General storage standards knowledge Familiarity with IEFT (iSCSI) Familiarity with T10 (SCSI Interfaces)Education and Experience: BSCS/CE/EE or relevant area required. MSCS/CE/EE preferred. 7 + years of experience. Strong programming skills. Skills in C, C++, and Java desired. UNIX or Linux based OS systems software development experience Excellent oral and written communication skills and presentation skills. Strong engineering development process skills. Ability to work independently and to collaborate in a team environmentQualifications:- Results-oriented engineer with the ability to drive projects to successful completion. The ability to provide work breakdown into individual tasks, accurately estimate the duration of those tasks, and manage the execution of the tasks.- High level design, detailed design, implementation/coding and development testing of new SAN functionality within the ONTAP product line.- Work with customer support to resolve customer satisfaction issues. Effectively drive a project to technical conclusion through the quality assurance cycle. Develop comprehensive, well-written functional and design specifications. Interact with local and remote teams to achieve consensus on technical and project issues.
