Job DescriptionJob Title: Senior Developer, ABAP

 

 

PURPOSE:

 

We are looking for a strong ABAP Developer to provide leadership, mentoring and technical programming support. This position is part of a team responsible for providing leadership and direction in the development of an integrated solution for our global SAP Landscape with 5000+ users across the North America-wide entities, utilizing SAP R/3, CRM, Business Warehouse, and Enterprise Portal.  Candidate must have process knowledge with SD, MM, FI, CRM; implementing enterprise portal and workflow and over 5 years of ABAP Development experience.

 

Performs routine, complex as well as moderately complex systems analysis and programming activities which may require extensive research. This position is for Developers who have acquired enough prior academic and business experience to assume a technical leadership role in the Organization and independently execute the needs of the business with only broad, high level direction from Sr. Staff. This sometimes requires at least moderate knowledge of the subject matter for the assigned application.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 Leadership: Developers in this position are expected to display good technical and group leadership skills during the course of delivering a project. Responsibilities include mentoring and guidance of more junior developers as well as deep content expertise in ABAP development in an SAP environment.  They must possess a leadership style that is proactive and team oriented, but does not antagonize colleagues and peers. Developers in this position are expected to show good leadership abilities, but may require further development or seasoning to become an established leader accepted by all members of the organization, including peers, subordinates, and supervisors.

 Problem Solving: Developers in this position are expected to be able to solve problems of considerable technical complexity, as well as frequently being able to solve problems in cases where specifications are inexact or incomplete.  Developers in this position should be able to identify and implement solutions to problems with a minimum amount of management supervision. They must demonstrate very good analysis, design, and coding skills and their code should be of very high quality able to stand the test of time, without significant rework or revision.  Developers in this position should also demonstrate good documentation skills and are expected to clearly communicate their program function as required to perform their duties but may need supervision in some cases.

 Technical competence: Developers in this position should demonstrate excellent broad technical competence in the performance of routine day-to-day job functions. They should be respected while performing these functions by supervisors, subordinates, and peers. They must have good coding skills, and must demonstrate the capability to independently analyze and design complex software solutions. They should not get "lost in the details" when attempting to solve a difficult problem, and should always able to keep the "big picture" in mind when proposing and implementing a solution. They should have advance industry knowledge of SAP Workflow and ABAP in an SAP CRM and Netweaver environment. 

 Supervision: Developers in this position are expected to be able to perform assigned tasks with a minimum degree of management supervision. They should work well leading small teams in situations which are generally well-defined and unambiguous. They can lead defined activities reliably, and with a minimum of management intervention.

 Initiative: Developers are expected to be proactive in addressing problems and in advancing solutions.

 Results: Developers in this position are expected to deliver high quality results in a manner that consistently meets established standards and expectations for the organization. They are expected to be self-motivated in producing and delivering tangible results to the organization. They should be able to develop and administer schedules for achieving stated goals and objectives with only occasional help or direction from their management or peers.

 

· Research and solve problems that users encounter in transacting activities in the SAP modules.

 

· Understand and troubleshoot programs with short turnaround time

 

· Other duties as assigned

 

SPECIALIZED DUTIES:

Specialty differentiation consists of technical and managerial skills required to perform specific organizational roles supporting a business unit or IS function.  This position is required to have the following areas of specialization:

 

· Needs to have knowledge of business processes in at least two of the following functional areas: post to close, requisition to payment, plan to ship, order to cash, request to service, market to sale.

 

· The candidate will interpret formal functional requirement specification documents; develop comprehensive detailed technical design documents followed by building high quality solutions.

 

· Assist System Lead Analysts on process teams in developing technical specifications for RICE items.

 

· Participate in code reviews of work

 

· Create documentation package for technical designs and programs

 

· Correct programs during system test



QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

 

· A B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science (or related discipline), advanced industry certifications or equivalent work experience and 5-7 years of enterprise software development experience. All people in this position must have significant design, coding, analysis and architecture experience in a commercial software development environment. Prior experience leading small software development teams with SAP is helpful but not required.

 

· 5+ years experience ABAP programming and strong knowledge of SAP data model and other SAP development tools (ABAP Objects, SAP Script / Smartforms, Web DynPro, etc.)

 

·  Senior level experience in ABAP development. Must be experienced in BAPIs, BADIs, SAP Script /Smarforms and ABAP Objects.

 

· Experience with current version of SAP R/3 (4.7), CRM 4.0 or 5.0 and enterprise portal 6.x a plus.

 

· Planning and coordination: The extent to which the employee plans and organizes to achieve job objectives, sets priorities among activities; utilizes available resources, copes with changing conditions and unforeseen events, assumes responsibility for completion of one’s own work and meets deadlines.

·  Customer Focus: Making customers and their needs a primary focus of one’s actions; developing and sustaining productive customer relationships. Educate customer, build collaborative relationships, and take action to meet customer needs and concerns and set up customer feedback systems.

Ability to interface with management and maintain composure in stressful situations.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from business and project team.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. 

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to perform complex calculations and create complex algorithms.  Thorough understanding of alternate numbering schemes like hex and binary

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 5+ years of enterprise development experience and use of the multiple development tools all in multiple platforms, solid working knowledge of relational databases and 2+ years experience using specialized vendor development environment and toolset as required.
