SW Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION:Seeking software engineer to support instrument research and development at NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center for an upcoming satellite-based X-ray astronomical mission. The chosen candidate will join a team of scientists and engineers to develop software that works closely with instrument subsystems that control and process data from arrays of low-temperature superconducting calorimeters. Depending on skills and interests, the chosen candidate may also operate the instrument to take data, perform calibrations or trouble-shoot the hardware and software interfaces. Required: *1+ year experience with real-time instrument control *Background in instrument engineering, physics or astronomy *2-4 years C and C++ experience on at least medium scale projects is an absolute must. Medium scale would be something with several aspects, e.g. a device driver with a GUI front end that allows several options for how to process, store and visualize the data. *Experience doing projects start-to-finish solo; doing what is necessary to understand the requirements, developing a work flow/schedule, following the schedule, completing all the aspects including testing and user support. *Experience with source code management/configuration management (using CVS, subversion or equivalent). *Experience in either Linux or OSX environments, preferably including shell scripting, but at least using shell commands. *Experience with at least one of the following: *Unix Sockets *Teamwork is also very important, but the person needs to be able to function autonomously. *Occasional travel.Desired: Experience with Igor Pro Experience with network sockets, multi-threaded software and/or high rate multiplexed data flow systems Hands-on laboratory experience To apply and for immediate consideration, follow the link below to the Wyle Information Systems Group Career Center and create a profile.
