Software Testing Engineer is responsible for authoring technical documentation, designing, creating, and executing automated tests to be used to exercise testing against Video Platform media services and the applications used to generate those services. The Software Testing Engineer works closely with the Application Engineers, and the Quality Assurance Leads to establish and deliver the documentation, and tests. The documentation and automated tests created may be referenced and executed by the Software Testing Engineer, Software Testers, and Application Engineers as well. All will be persons holding technical-aptitude.

The Video Platform group is responsible for supplying media delivery, storage, and reporting technologies technologies for Yahoo! The Quality Assurance team is responsible for planning, coordination, researching and facilitating the computer-related activities as they pertain to the quality of the Video Platform group’s services. Providing efficient Quality Control Measures, Software Testing and Quality Process Assessment is the key focus of the team.
As a Software Testing Engineer, in the Quality Assurance team, you will be closely involved with the documentation, utilities, and tools that aid in quality initiatives which span requirements management, software testing, and ultimately software application release readiness. You will document, design, and engineer automated tests that will interact with and enter instructions into software applications to provide validity of results, accuracy, reliability, conformance to the established standards, and to detect error codes, or interruption of program functionality. You will create tools that will observe software applications during testing, review computer operating logs, and that will identify processing errors electronically. If a tool or utility, that could be used for testing does not exist, you may execute certain amounts of manual testing to meet set project goals. You will recommend program improvements or corrections to application engineers. Using documentation, diagrams, and flow charts, you will determine if programs perform according to user requests and conform to Test Plan guidelines. While testing you will identify differences between established standards and those used within the software application. Exposed to all phases of the software life cycle process you will help certify quality and adherence to product specifications. You will be guided by a Test Plan, Use Cases and Software Engineering interviews to generate Test Cases, inspect and analyze products and their components recording your findings in a tracking and reporting system.Qualifications:
- Able to work in a dynamic environment

- Must be able to perceive software problems while following Test Plans
- Must have automated test programming knowledge
Minimum skills:
- 3+ years of applicable experience
- Must have ability to focus test execution on intricate software functionality
- Must have hands on experience with programming for the Unix environment/API using JAVA
- Excellent understanding of the Unix/FreeBSD client-side environments
- Healthy understanding of how Unix like environments interact with programs
- Healthy understanding of how Internet actions occur with JSP components
- Must have ability to systematically define recreation steps for problems encountered
- Must have ability to learn and master new automated testing tools and their proprietary APIs
Preferred skills:
- Experience with PHP, PERL, and UNIX SHARE SCRIPT programming
- Experience designing automated tests for Server Side applications
- Experience designing automated tests for Internet JSP, Tomcat, and Apache designed software solutions
