The Opportunity:
The Web Development group is a service-oriented group involved in the creation, design, development, and maintenance of web sites and web-based applications. This primarily involves web pages for the Classmates web site, but may also include development for partner sites, as well as demonstrations, presentations, and internal tools. Senior Web Developers are creative, self-driven individuals who primarily develop web pages, combining elements of design, content, scripting, and programming into functional interfaces. As members of the Technology department, Senior Web Developers are engaged at multiple stages of a project’s lifecycle, having the opportunity to interact with various departments. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Building and maintaining web pages.
Working in a team environment with software engineers and project managers.
Following direction provided by technical leads.
Tackling prioritized tasks and working on a deadline-driven schedule.
Testing projects thoroughly and outlining release notes for testers.
Debugging web page problems and quickly responding to address them.
Manipulating and optimizing graphics from files provided by graphic designers.
Writing technical documents, such as outlining the approach on projects before starting development.
The Job Requirements:
Excellent knowledge in JSP, JSTL, HTML, DHTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Proficiency with AJAX, JQuery and Web 2.0.
Excellent knowledge of graphic design software such as Adobe Photoshop and Macromedia Fireworks.
Well-versed in web programming languages such as CGI, JSP, and PHP.
Understanding of strongly-typed programming languages such as Java.
Understanding of relational databases, including experience working with SQL.
Basic understanding of UNIX systems.
Experience using version control software.
Strong knowledge of recognized web coding standards such as W3C.
Ability to develop for cross-browser compatibility.
Knowledge of software and project development lifecycles.
Willingness to stay on top of the latest technologies and build on current skill sets.
Knowledge of which technologies fit the specific needs of each project.
Experience with systems that template pages to achieve dynamism and flexibility.
Ability to multitask and manage time between simultaneous projects.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
High levels of organization and attention to detail.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or a commensurate level of experience.
5+ years of professional-level web development experience.
Experience with ATG Dynamo 5.6.1 or another application server is a plus.
Online portfolio of web development projects is a plus.
