JOB SUMMARY
Serve as team member or team leader developing and supporting application software. Receive general instructions for assignments from a manager or more senior technical staff member and work with independence and discretion regarding how to carry out those tasks.

ResponsibilitiesServe as team member or technical lead for the design and implementation of products. Manage complexity at the subsystem level. Resolve technical problems. Initiate design changes and provide engineering support to assess customer needs and solve field issues. Conduct and engage in complex software development requiring direct interface with hardware. Generate design and product documentation. Perform unit testing and integration testing as required. Participate in source code control and software release activities. Serve as a technical mentor to junior members of the engineering staff. Conduct technical presentations/demonstrations as necessary. Interface with other departments to accomplish product development objectives. Required Skills



Skills Required: Effective written and verbal communication skills. Be able to document requirements, designs and project status. Effective time management, from own time to the limited project schedules level. Working knowledge of 3 or more of the following technology areas: Complex software application development. Java development experience. Database centric application development including SQL and related technologies. TCP/IP protocols and Ethernet networking technology Web Server centric application development including HTML, XML, SOAP, HTTP, Perl and server side scripting.. Multi-threaded and distributed programming models. Cable centric experience including DOCSIS, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4. Client-server applications including message passing paradigms and protocols. Real-time application design, including deadline scheduling and resource management.

Eduducation Required:
BS in Computer Science or equivalent preferred. Advanced degree (MSEE, MSCS) preferred


 

 Required Experience

Experience Required:
5 years prior design and development experience required. Experience in multi-threaded or client-server development required. Hands-on experience with debuggers and crash dump analysis tools required. Hands-on experience with source-code control systems and bug tracking systems required.
