Senior Automation Engineer
Position Summary:This position is responsible for leading development and execution of but not restricted to Automating Software Application installs, building new base OS template/configurations and fitting them into our Opsware tool framework, identifying and automating previous manual server OS configurations and other areas impacting successful delivery of National IP High Speed Data (HSD), Bedrock Provisioning Platform and Comcast Digital Voice (CDV) services.
Major Duties:Lead development, maintenance, and execution of Automating Software Application installs, building new base OS builds and fitting them into our Opsware tool framework, identifying and automating previous manual server OS configurations.Identifying current bottlenecks and breakdowns in process and streamlining OS provisioning solutions. System Operations 24x7 on call rotation for production support break/fix issues.Engineering intelligent scripts intended to replace existing manual server configuration and bringing new servers/services to production more efficiently.Defining Server Standards and Best Practices and implementing them as engineered bundled solutions using Opsware and other automation tools.Support the Opsware Infrastructure and perform software upgrades and architect solutions to scale the tool per our customer demandsWork with internal applications teams to review new applications and define requirements.
EDUCATION:BS Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems or other closely related technical discipline.Possession of industry recognized certifications (Solaris, Redhat, etc.) is a plus.
EXPERIENCE:At least 5 -7 years hands-on experience with engineering new UNIX OS builds/solutions in an automated jumpstart/kickstart environment.At least 3 years experience with shell scripting (Korn, Bash shell, Perl, etc.), TCL scripting (i.e., Expect), Web scripting (server), HTML,XML, PHP.At least 3-5 years experience in Telecommunications, Operations, or Engineering field supporting a production UNIX environment with 24x7 escalations.Experience writing test scripts and working with test tools and applications. Solid understanding of the TCP/IP protocol suite (e.g. ARP, IP, TCP, DNS, UDP, and SNMP).Experience and familiarity with SUN Sunfire v120, v220, v240, v49, T2000, HP Proliant DL360/DL380 and Dell 1950 and 2250 server hardware as relates to UNIX driver and firmware updates and general UNIX troubleshooting OS provisioning.Familiar with the use of primarily Unix/Linux operation systems and secondarily with Windows, including experience with common TCP/IP testing tools (tcpdump, ping, and tracerouter)Experience with the Opsware automation tool in any capacity a big plus.Creative, self-motivated team player willing to take the lead to develop cutting-edge network audit solutionsExperience with large scale IP network and ISP/OSP environment is a plus.Proven analytical, problem solving and organizational ability.Excellent oral/written communication and inter-personal skills.
