Senior Corporate Counsel - Purchasing

VeriSign, Inc., an S&P 500 company and technology industry leader, is seeking a Senior Corporate Counsel to serve as dedicated legal support for the Global Purchasing group. The position is high visibility, and involves regular exposure to company executives and key vendors.  The chosen candidate will report to the Vice President and Associate General Counsel, and work closely with him on strategic transactions, policy, and training activities.  A high degree of professionalism, verbal and analytical skills, and business acumen is required. Key Responsibilities: 1. Negotiate complex deals with industry leading companies. 2. Diplomatically interface with cross-functional Corporate and Product team staff. 3. Apprise company executives of legal and risk management issues. 4. Craft workarounds, present alternatives and propose solutions to achieve business objectives. 5. Represent company's interests and interface directly with suppliers’ counsel and negotiating teams. 6. Interpret contracts with an understanding of the business context. 7. Stay current on legal developments affecting the company, its customers, and industries and incorporate the information into the company's transactional practices. 8. Support, promote and implement initiatives as part of Legal team.9.  Draft and refine playbook content and form contract templates to use by Purchasing Specialists.10.  Travel as needed to expedite completion of deals (approx. 5-10% travel expected). Requirements: 1. Minimum of 8 years of transactional experience, preferably working in the area of technology licensing in roles with increasing responsibility. Purchasing contracting experience strongly preferred. 2. Experience in a well regarded law firm and/or fast-paced corporate legal/transaction group for a technology provider or related area required. 3. Proven ability to efficiently manage challenging transaction workload, including purchasing contracts, license agreements, construction and real estate agreements, and proposal reviews. 4. Experience negotiating intellectual property issues, especially involving consulting, custom development work, and managed services offerings. 5. Familiarity with international issues (doing business in non-US jurisdictions, contracting under foreign laws, etc.) a strong plus. VeriSign is seeking a highly motivated senior corporate counsel.
