Senior Product Manager, Post-Processing Products

Exa Corporation, a rapidly growing engineering software firm and solution supplier to virtually every passenger car and heavy truck manufacturer worldwide, is accelerating the development of its revolutionary fluid dynamics simulation solutions. We are looking for experienced product management professionals to help grow and lead this effort.

Exa’s solutions enable analysis of aerodynamics, thermal management (heating and cooling), and aeroacoustics including wind noise.  The core solver uses patented Lattice Boltzmann methods to achieve accurate and rapid results without the need to simplify geometry as is the case with traditional CFD products. This enables our customers to dramatically improve their product development process so that sophisticated product performance analysis is performed as part of the early design process when key design designs are made with high business impact.

Role & Responsibilities:

This highly visible product management position, reporting to the VP Product Management, is ideal for a product manager with experience in 3D visualization and/or simulation (CAE) software. Specific expertise in 3D graphics visualization is required and experience with product design processes, CAE, and/or computational geometry is highly desirable.  You will be responsible for managing the strategy and requirements for Exa’s post-simulation analysis, visualization, and reporting solutions. You will interface with Exa’s software development and application engineering departments, and our key customers to build a consolidated product vision and develop the functional requirements.  Initially this will be an individual contributor role but it is expected that this will expand to involve managing a small team. Travel is expected to be 20%.

Product Development

· Gather key customer, Exa application teams, and Exa services team inputs

· Anticipate, gather, & document desired customer-oriented usage scenarios (process flow)

· Anticipate, gather, & document customer-oriented problem statements (customer needs)

· Write functional requirements

· Determine requirements for new physics/mathematics needed for new application areas

· Review and approve functional specifications

· Interface with R&D to review, adjust and prioritize requirements as required throughout the development process

· Review product documentation

· Interface with QA to review test plans; ensure realistic customer-oriented test cases are included

· Participate in testing of new software to ensure major requirements are met

 

Product Strategy

· Understand the overall simulation market and Exa’s position within the market

· Understand the current and potential applications of the product

· Define product strategy for core simulation products

· Provide input to Exa’s overall product & market strategy

 

 

Customer Interaction

· Understand customers’ business processes and initiatives. Be able to translate this into a vision for product improvement

· Understand, articulate, and communicate customers’ technical requirements

· Support sales/application teams with on-site and corporate office customer visits

· Communicate product strategy, capabilities, differentiators, and benefits at engineering management level

· Define and manage customer pre-release testing activities

 

Business Development

· Identify and propose partners to complete solution suite

· Manage business relationship with partners

 

Sales, Marketing and Services Support

· Develop and deliver product overviews & new product release content especially regarding capabilities, benefits, and process improvement

· In collaboration with product marketing develop competitive positioning and product messaging

· Demonstrate key product capabilities

· Develop product content for use in training

· Deliver training to field on new product releases?

Management

· Recruit, train, and/or retain a team of product managers

· Professionally manage team including establishing employee performance goals, frequent and meaningful feedback, personal/professional development and training as necessary

· Provide a motivating and rewarding environment for employees

 

Requirements:

· BS (preferably MS or PhD) in Engineering or a closely related field.

· 5+ years of software product management experience, preferably for engineering applications

· A solid understanding of 3D visualization, CAE processes, technology, and industry

· Outstanding interpersonal, problem solving and planning skills

· Outstanding written and verbal communication skills

 

Highly Desirable:

· 2+ years experience managing other people

· Industrial experience in an engineering field

· Experience with common CAE tools like ABAQUS, Fluent, Simulia, NASTRAN

· Experience with common CAD modeling tools like CATIA, Pro/E, I-DEAS, Unigraphics and/or SolidWorks.
