The Biological Separations and Mass Spectrometry Group at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory is looking for a Senior Research Scientist to function as a central resource for proteomics and metabolomics software and data analysis tools. The successful candidate will work with other scientists to facilitate data interpretation, will refine the overall proteomics technology platform, and will implement QA/QC procedures.

Must have the ability to evaluate and apply new informatics software and data analysis tools for
separations/mass spectrometry-based proteomics studies. In addition the selected individual must interact with various researchers in the analysis and interpretation of quantitative proteomics analyses and provide assistance to researchers working to automate existing data analysis tools. This position will participate in research and development projects, contributing ideas and methods to existing projects, and helping to develop new projects and provide feedback to the software and technology development team to improve the quality of proteomics analyses.
Software development background with experience in data management and informatics is desired.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Work with other scientists to facilitate data interpretation, will refine the overall proteomics technology platform, and will implement QA/QC procedures. Background in biology and mass spectrometry helpful. Software development background required with experience in data management and informatics desired. Must have the ability to evaluate and apply new informatics software and data analysis tools for separations/mass spectrometry-based proteomics studies.


Minimum Requirements:

 

Level III:

Applies, on a broad basis, existing theories, principles, and concepts to a specialty field. Fully competent in all conventional applications of knowledge common in the specific discipline and function of work assigned. Principle Investigator (PI) or Co-PI on projects or tasks.  Proactively stays abreast of developments in industry and maintains skills consistent with state of the art. Minimum Education Requirement: Degree in Chemistry, Physics or related discipline. BS 5 years experience, MS 3 years experience, PhD with 1-2 years experience.


Level IV:

Technical expert. Selects and widely applies principles, theories and concepts in major field of specialization.
Fully competent scientist/engineer contributing to science and technology solutions in the conventional aspects of discipline specialty. PI or Co-PI on multiple or significant projects or tasks. Understands the application of domain skills and knowledge. Directs technical projects that may involve multi-disciplinary activities.
Minimum Education Requirement: Degree in Chemistry, Physics or related discipline. BS 7+ years experience, MS 5+ years experience, PhD 3+ years experience.
